I bought this book for my two boys who are six and seven years old, it looked great to me. Unfortunately after reading a few of the stories my boys said the book was just plain boring! Maybe it would be better suited for girls??? there are so many lovely books out there and I liked the idea of having lots of different stories all in one book, but it didn't work this time !!!

This is a story about four red haired children, Jim and Susan, the twins and their younger sister and brother, Nicolette and David. Their grandfather had been first-class at tennis, so had their father before he had been shot in the leg and could not play anymore. My 4 year old adores this book. The story is realistic and she really relates to the little girls in the ballet class. Great illustrations.

Lily by Adèle Geras is a ghost story told by Marie, a young woman who is haunted by two ghosts. The first is the infant manifestation of Zoe, the baby that she tragically miscarried during her teenage pregnancy. She is not believed, and is treated for a supposed psychological condition. The reader is sucked into Marie's life and I found myself living the story with her. When she starts a new job looking after the daughter of her psychiatrist, things start to go wrong for her and life becomes increasingly scary. Her charge, Amy, grows to love her but events conspire against her, leading to a terrifying climax to the story and a breathless conclusion. Lily is a great story, which left me hungry to read more by Adèle Geras.

What an excellent read! I thoroughly agree with all the previous reviewers about the merits of this book. If you love family sagas and enjoy finding out about hidden skeletons in closets, then this book will suit you. As a previous reviewer has already suggested, there is a secret at the heart of the book. I had an idea about halfway through about what this secret might be, but I was nonetheless sufficiently intrigued to carry on reading to the very end, to find out whether I was right (I was!). Some parts of the story were really quite heart-rending and you do find yourself drawn into this story almost from the beginning. wow! This book was truly great. It was funny, sad, romantic, and I loved the way that the Greek Gods and Goddesses were worked into the plot. I would recomend this to teenage girls who love reading historical fiction like me!
