As soon as the leaves start to fall it's time to get the new copy of the Good Pub Guide. Other reviewers have complained not much changes, but for me it's the small changes from year to year which are the pleasure. Which pubs are newly inserted, which ones are out?

If a pub you like isn't in there then why not submit a review (you can now do this on the web). The GPG team do take notice and you might even see your name in print in the 2010 edition...

Either not many places in Britain allow dogs or this guide just doesn't have enough information. Some areas are well covered but some have pitifully few entries (London in particular). Also many of the hotels listed say dogs are allowed in bedrooms only but must be accompanied at all times. How are you supposed to make that work? Hardly any B&Bs are listed
Good guides are generally excellent and this is a great idea but just needs to be more comprehensive.

This is a great way to plan hoildays if you don't want to leave your dog behind! It's just a shame that in some areas there are almost no dog-friendly placed (e.g. Surrey - we had to stay in a 5-star hotel as there was no other option in the local area - what a shame :)

Good descriptions of all entries; unfortunately this particular book is now a bit out of date, so best phone up to check before travelling - can't wait for the 2006/7 guide to come out!

If you happen to be out and about around the countryside (or towns & cities), what better way to while away a couple of hours than in a cosy pub. This is THE guide to keep at hand / in your car etc. In it you'll find the most up-to-date information there is about all the best pubs to go to for real ales, wholesome pub grub, or fine dining. I've been using the Good Pub Guides for the last few years & haven't yet been disappointed by any of the featured or recommended pubs. Well worth investing in a copy as it saves you disappointing trips to mediocre pubs, or wasted journeys to a pub only to find that they don't have on offer what you're looking for (food / children's play area etc.).

Along with the featured pubs for each ... Read More:

Sadly this little guide can only justify one of the three claims in its title. Yes it will fit in the pocket, but no, its not good and only 33 of its 207 pages relate to the Motorway, the rest being facilities off A roads.
Various facilities are described, pubs, hotels, restraunts, parks, museums, garden centres, BUT not petrol stations - surely a major ommission. Rather vague directions are given to each and a phone number, but neither an address nor a post code are provided, little help to sat nav users. The print size is also too small for easy reading on the move.
Maps showing the location of each entry are provided at the end of the book but are so small in scale they are of little use.

I would suggest instead "Breaks ... Read More:

Books : The Good Pub Guide 2007
I'd agree with J Halstead's comments above for the most part.

I suppose it all depends on what you look for in a pub. I too am a lover of real ale (although not a card carrying CAMRA member) and like pubs with good (well kept) beer and if possible good food. Not generally a fan of bistro type pubs (although I went to the Drunken Duck in Cumbria mentioned above and enjoyed the beer and food that I had there).

In the past I have used this guide, the Good Beer Guide and the more recently established Real Ale Pub Guide.

This guide (the Good Pub Guide) tends to put more emphasis on ambience and food than the quality or range of beers offered. Listings tend to be made on reader recommendations and I'd question how ... Read More:
