As all the other reviews say, this is an out and out classic children's book - a must have. This copy, however, is dreadful. The paper is thin and overly glossy, making it difficult to get to the next page and it could do with being bigger as it's really all about the pictures. I bought where the wild things are at the same time and that is amazingly presented, highlighting the problem with this further. This seems like a pamphlet or concert programme - cheap. Save money and get the board book. It's smaller but the pictures are sharper.

A book that a lot of parents tell you is the best book ever for children, but my daughter has not enjoyed it at any age. I agree with the other low-rating reviewers that it doesn't really have any of the things children love about books, the tiny detailed pictures are cute and nostalgic, but children aren't interested in those things. It's very right-on, just like all their books, but a turn-off in my house.

This book is one of the lasting memories of my childhood and luckily I still have the same copy from back then that I can now read to my own children. My youngest is 2 and she sometimes lacks the patience to wait for me to read all the text before jumping ahead to the next page but the charming illustrations enable her to have a good grasp of the story anyway. She loves the Burglar Cat and Burglar Baby. It will always have pride of place on my bookshelf as it holds lovely memories for me and I hope my children look back on it with fondness in the years to come too.

Our local pre-school gives this book out every year to the children who are leaving to start school. The book follows several children as they start reception class through the first term up until Christmas. Whilst written as a childrens story book it is excellently thought out and very perceptive. My two older children were both given one and loved it! A great book to buy before your child starts school, and a good starting point for parents who wish to prepare their young child for that big step!

Read this book as a child - it was a true favourite of all the family! Still love it now (at university!)

I have always loved the Ahlberg's books but this one is my absolute favourite. The wonderful and humorous illustrations are matched perfectly by the funny rhyming story and combine to create a cosy little world to get lost in. My 2 and 4 years old children can't get enough of this book. A true classic.

If you don't know this story, it's about a couple of skeletons and a dog skeleton that live in a dark, dark cellar and venture out to scare people during the dead of night. Not a very good story for a bedtime reader you might think! In fact, the story is very funny and not at all scary and so makes an excellent bedtime reader. It also makes an excellent early reader, because as well as the story narrative, the skeletons engage in some very funny dialogue and jokes in the pictures. These can only be appreciated by older readers. A brilliant book. Very highly recommended

Haha, i loved this book as a child. i remember when one of my primary school teachers used to read us the poems. i simply had to buy the book my self and was deffently great for learning as well as reading for fun. A* through out the book.

I bought this book for my two boys who are six and seven years old, it looked great to me. Unfortunately after reading a few of the stories my boys said the book was just plain boring! Maybe it would be better suited for girls??? there are so many lovely books out there and I liked the idea of having lots of different stories all in one book, but it didn't work this time !!!

Mrs Wobble the waitress is a fantastic book especially great for little children. It is written by allan ahlberg and is illustrated by janet ahlberg. It is a very funny book which explains about a family who set up a restaurent. The pictures are all very detailed and some of them have speech bubbles with people saying things. One of the pictures even shows their menu. The actual story is very well written and uses easy, understandle language. It is a perfect book to read to your children because it is reasonably short and every page has a picture on it. The book is also good for children learning to read because it uses basic words.
