I am kind of surprised that so many people have given this 5 stars. I don't think this book is very good and here are my reasons. 1- The book is written in a style that some people may not like, although this was not a problem for me. What did annoy me was the way they wrote the code bit by bit over many pages filled with a lot of people and pizzas in between. It means you can never use it as a quick reference as you have to search for the final correct piece of code. 2- There are no full code examples. Yes everything presented is in fragments, you will never see a complete piece of programme. 3- It uses Java, which looks like C# to all intents and purposes. I found this extremely helpful in helping me master the fundamental principles of JAVA. Head First specialise in creating a visual learning experience. This might at first seem strange but once you get used to it, you see the value and begin to wish more people made it this easy. Recommend.

Firstly I am a big fan of Head First books. Head First Design Patterns was a revelation to me. I have Head First EJB & impressed with that. I am a SCJP so no stranger to Java. But... Head First Servlets & JSP I have found hard going. At times I have found it absolutely mind numbing. Yes, it may give you a basic intro. to the concepts, but then you are quickly immersed in chapter after chapter of configuration details in the deployment descriptor and the vagaries of EL versus JSTL. On and on it goes. Yes you need to know this stuff but what it really lacks me for is small, full, working real world examples for each point you are covering, that you can see in your browser. Well if you are not doing the exam and actually want to learn about EJB dont get this book. Its back to school stuff, loads of theory with no practical and no examples of anything. It focuses on stuff like you must remember this for the exam and that alone. "setRollbackOnly lives in 2 interfaces etc. etc. This method can be called from this interface but not from this ( x 100 times ) " For actual development and real use of EJB it's a waste of time. If you just want to program a few EJB's and keep a book beside you as reference, this is not gonna be your reference book!
