I had the previous version of this book and found it to be a great guide so we will be buying this one as we are going in August. Rough Guide are the best - they cater for people who want to splash out as well as those on a shoestring. I am consistently disappointed with the Lonely Planet books - they don't seem to visit the places they are talking about, reviews of places often don't give any info - e.g. 'the rooms are basic but clean and start at $14'. Rough Guide are the best. Time Out Vancouver is also very good if you want to know really good boutique hotels, restaurants etc, but Time Out guides aren't really all-round guides.

This book is great for:

- Advanced undergraduates
- Post-graduates doing organic chemistry

It shows you how to make various compounds, discusses the strategies and let's you have a go at devising your own. Very nicely written. Worth the money.

Oh, and if you belong to a research group that meets every so often for problem classes, then this is a nice source of problems to present to your fellow students.

There is a second volume to this which has come out, which I understand is also good, although I don't own it. Volumes I and II are stand-alones.

Books : Tenerife: The Mini Rough Guide (Miniguides)
This is a truly fantastic book that covers just about everything there is to know about Tenerife, from the island's turbulent history to the best places to eat whilst away from the resorts. The Rough Guide to Tenerife and La Gomera provides detailed information about the whole island, rather than just concentrating on the resorts of the South-West with a bit of stuff about the rest of Tenerife as so many other guide books do.

It's a fairly recent book, with all prices quoted in Euro's, and so is pretty up to date, and includes some excellent maps. All this squeezed into a cute pocket-sized format!

The Canaries aren't huge, but this book is still pretty undersized. There's no decent map included, and generally just a couple of pages on each subject. I'm looking for another guide book to supplement/replace it, frankly.

After hearing General Schwartzkoff promote this book, I immediately ordered it for my new grandson. I knew it would be a few years before he could understand it but thought this would be a book to treasure until then. I sat down with the CD playing to follow along expecting to be delighted - and I was from time to time. The illustrations are wonderful, everything I had hoped for. The narration, alas, is not. My overall impression is that of an inside joke and it isn't the Emperor being naked. The famous personalities that contribute to the narration should add to the entertainment value but I confess I was often bored. Was this written to amuse adults? Robin Williams was an exception. I could imagine my grandson giggling at ... Read More:
