This book is a great way of introducing children to a disability, blindness and braille. It could be a very downbeat book as Laura's penfriend Malcolm loses his sight, but this is handled well leaving an upbeat impression. The book is illustrated beautifully in an almost impressionist style using what looks like pastels. Also, the inclusion of actual Braille within the book is brilliant and will really bring the story to life for children. I would definately recommend this book.
