Despite the inferior quality of the photo reproduction I've always thought that Rough Guide is better value than Lonely Planet. It is generally more informative, more erudite, and the style is arguably geared to a wider readership, while LP leans more towards backpackers and gap-year students. I also think LP is more prone to hyperbole while Rough Guide is normally unflinchingly honest about places. It's perceived negativity is for me a bonus as it is often better to travel with lower or at least realistic expectations. As it says in the opening gambit, many travellers head for India expecting to 'encounter a timeless ascetic wonderland and are surprised to find one of the most materialistic societies on the planet'. I think this is pretty spot ... Read More:

I visited Morocco in Spring this year and found that the level of detail in the Rough Guide to Morocco was impressive. The guide is straight forward and easy to use and was full of details I wouldn't have even thought of expecting from a guide book, but definitly appreciated reading. Packed with every detail from which airlines fly into Morocco, to examples of traditional Moroccan myths, it was the perfect companion for our trip! It gave us practical details, which were accurate and helpful and at the same time gave us an insight into the complex culture. I started using Rough Guides with a trip to Stockholm last December and now I'm hooked!

I was really impressed by this guide for Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan - It gives you fantastic information (sometimes we forgot to read parts i.e. about the trains over there, subsequently wishing we had as it would have saved us so much time!) The recommendations for the hotels and restaurants is impressive and made our trip so much more enjoyable. Definitely take this with you!

I believe the title is far more revealing than one might imagine. On the whole, I would highly recommend this book as a foundation or starting place for a trip to Mexico; though inevitably for a general guide, bredth of information surpasses depth.

The book is broken down into rather helpful zones or regions of the country, making the act of planning far more convenient. Each zone is subcategorised into cities and towns (most with a street map of the town centre). This precedes a broad description of the history and points of interest in the town, then a list of some of the better eateries, hotels, transport links, and nightlife. Beware, however - details about bus times and such like can change often - note the year of publication of your ... Read More:

I have just returned from a month+ backpacking in Tunisia and found this guide to be invaluable. Excellent recommendations and fascinating background conveys the love of the country from genuine travellers. Even though this edition was a few years out of date, everything was pretty much spot-on, although note that the train to Tozeur is up and running again (even the more dull Lonely Planet 2007 ed. about Tunisia was out of date on this one!). Take it with you and enjoy...

Books : The Rough Guide to Morocco - 7th Edition
Having just returned from Morocco with a copy of this book, I would say that for the most part it is, as with all rough guides, an essential travelling companion. For those buying the book with a view to travelling to Morocco, I would bare in mind that because Morocco is a country changing at a great pace especially in terms of its tourist ambitions, that the guide despite only being published a year ago is already out-of-date with regard to some of the facilities available in places of Morocco that some may consider "off the beaten track." The guide suggested that some of the towns we stayed in did not have running water, electricity or places to eat, which was not the case and reading the book beforehand may well have encouraged us not to go to these places. ...
