This is by far the best Dreamweaver book I've come across, its made a huge difference to the quality of the sites I build, The CSS tutorials are spot on and make you pick up things you thought were not possible. The author has a great understanding of how a 'rookie' web designer thinks and feels so hats of.

I have been a student web designer for a few years never touching the coding side of it because well... it scared me. I ended up realising that if I wanted a job as a web designer I needed to learn at least the basics of XHTML and CSS. I started by taking out 'The visual quickstart guide to HTML, XHTML & CSS' from the library. This was a good basic book that got me to grips with it very quickly. As I had to return it after a week I bought CSS The missing manual based on the reviews here.

I prefer it to the quickstart guide as the author explanations are more in-depth, he explains why certain rules get inherited and others don't. However I am glad I had the quickstart book first as it explained more about HTML than this book does. ... Read More:

I am fairly new to Webdesign and Dreamweaver, and feel I have come a long long way thanks to this book. The author David McFarland clearly has a serious mastery of Web Design and Dreamweaver, and does a good job of explaining every aspect of the program. Also, as brilliant as Dreamweaver is, there are still a few features that are best avoided, for various reasons. McFarland is not afraid of pointing out any such features.
I highly recommend this book.

I have found this dictionary extremely helpful while attempting to survive my degree in animal behaviour! Written by McFarland, the book breaks everything down simplistically for you to understand, while managing to keep the info content at a high level (all terms are also in alphabetical order for easy access). The information is correct and informative, and it's helped me get through a lot of assignments!

Plenty of people have shone their light over the question of thinking machines. As a zoologist David McFarland succeeds in getting a fresh angle at the subject, however, as he explores the triangle of humans minds, animals and robots in a systematic way.

Laudably, mr McFarland does not set to his task by ploughing through the work of his predecessors in the field. In stead he focusses on case studies to make his points. As it happens the way humans look at robots depends more on how we see ourselves rather than what the robot is actually capable of doing. Ultimately, we should realise that robots and animals are so different from us that we can never objectively resolve whether their 'mental' capacities are comparable to ours.

A valuable publication that covers the subject in great detail - sometimes too much for the experienced user, but wonderful for the novice. Overall, the exercises supplied are very useful except that I found I was unable to use the exercise for dynamic web pages since it is designed for Microsoft's IIS or PWS - neither of which are viable with Windows XP Home edition. No CD supplied with this book but you can easily download the files for the exercises from the publisher's website. There are ample cross-references in the book making it a useful source in your library. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to use Dreamweaver MX 2004.
