I'm really impressed with this book mainly for the reason that it's been my saviour recently for last minute meals that I've had to prepare for visitors. I haven't had the heart to say I've cheated but I've had nothing but compliments for the food, even from my fiancee who can't stand capers! I recommend this for real kitchen cheats who want to guarentee a tasty meal. If you want to sit back and take the full credit yourself, try something else! It's also good value at the moment. I've not seen it cheaper anywhere else.

Ths book is fantastic, I could not have got through my teens without it.. The things Delia can do with a Cucumber and a flacid piece of meat are tremdous and a must see.. The pictures and diagrams are particularly helpful and arousing

I already had several of Delia's books, and I didn't really think I needed another. I received this book as a gift at christmas, and like many of the other reviewers have already said, it really is fantastic. Her recipes are as always easy and simple to follow, written in such a way that inspires, even the most novice of cooks.

I have most of Delia's book but this is the first book from "the Delia Collection" that I have read and used. Firstly it is a beautiful book to look at. The cover, photography and very easy to follow recipes. Secondly the recipes are stunning. Some of them I have baked before from her other books but just using this book is a pleasure so I use it for even familiar recipes. All of them have been well received. Thirdly, even though the majority of the recipes are in previous books, it is a very handy to have the best of her baking recipes in one volume.

Bought this recently and a week ago tried one of the recipes- spiced chicken pilau. Just like other Delia recipes that I have tried, this did not disappoint. Her take on frugal eating and cooking is always timely but alas, her pronouncements on freezing are out of date (see How to Cheat at Cooking for updates on freezing and how technology has made it all possible).

I've just gone back through this cookbook as what put me off to start with is the lack of pictures for every dish, however in recent weeks I've made several of the recipes - the roasted goats cheese vegetable couscous is a real hit and the leg of lamb wih rosemary is a stunning summer dish. This is a great cookbook for summer - and fairly health conscious too - I hadn't realised Delia is a weight watcher!

My initial reaction to this anthology of recipes from earlier Delia Smith books was much the same as that of earlier reviewers. The recipes are generally inventive, and the book itself is well laid out, and visually attractive. But the more I use it, the more irritated I get. First, the colour photographs are a 50 per cent waste of space. There are typically four pictures on each illustration page, two of them of one of the dishes, which is fine, and two of pretty arrangements of a few ingredients. This is OK if you're a fan of photographic still lifes, but not much use if you want to see how a given recipe is meant to look. Second, Delia's style is execrable. Excellent recipe ideas, though it's hard to get hold of some of the ingredients here in Japan (lamb, whole poultry, etc.) The char-grilled tuna and the shepherd's pie are my husband's favourites!
