I have just finished The Laughter of Dead Kings, it was very enjoyable, but I was a bit disappointed I had hoped for more. However at last the links between the Amelia books and the modern Vicky Bliss books are coming alive, hopefully they will be expanded in the future.

I had hoped for a search and adventure on the lines of Last train to Memphis but this did not have the same panache, it felt a little tired and exasperated. Perhaps Elizabeth Peters is having to write to appease her loyal readers at the expense of her own wishes, I still liked the book and will be in line for her next in whatever time or place it is set.

Cutting edge design which still stands up today, the Case Study project houses presented here will have you slavering with desire and staring at your own humble abode with a sudden and acute dissatisfaction. This is the first, and only, book I`ve seen which does justice to these achingly beautiful pieces of architecture. The photographs are so big you can almost fall into them and they're accompanied by schematics and plans from unrealised projects as well. Taschen's production skills with these large format special editions really pays off here and even at full RRP it is a steal. Unreservedly recommended.

Peter Fenwick is a Neuropsychiatrist and is considered to the leading British clinical authority on the process of dying including end of life experiences, actual death experiences and temporary death experiences. This is not a clinical study as such because it relies on anecdotal evidence of something that cannot be imperically measured. What Dr. Fenwick does is to group together the variety of experiences from carers, family members and what is intriguing is the remarkable similarity of content. Intriguing and interesting.

Presents the information in a logical and understandable way, as opposed to many alternatives out there that manage to make it all more complicated than it needs to be.

This book finds our heroine Amelia Peabody married to the archeologist she met in Crocodile on the Sandbank. They have made their home in England where they have put their first love (digging around in Egypt) on hold while they raise their son and Professor Emerson teaches archeology. But this life is not what they are suited for. When an opportunity presents itself to re-engage themselves in an expedition whose leader died (or perhaps murdered)they jump at the chance.

As the Emersons set about to dispel the idea of the Curse of the Pharoahs (a trumped up idea) they meet with a plethora of strange characters, each a possible suspect in the death of Lord Baskerville who was the original archeologist. There is the tabloid writer, ... Read More:

as with all of E.P.'s books this one was great - I agree totally with the above reviewer ...BUT this edition is so full of typos that it was almost difficult to read -- if you can find a different edition buy it instead .....

Elizabeth Peters was born and brought up in Illinois and earned her Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago's famed Oriental Institute. Peters was named Grand Master at the inaugural Anthony Awards in 1986 and Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America at the Edgar Awards in 1998. She lives in a historic farmhouse in western Maryland.

The Amelia Peabody books may or may not be an acquired taste, personally I love them. They are set in Victorian times when there were still very strict rules of etiquette and polite behaviour was the norm. Although most of the books are set in Egypt, in the desert under very trying conditions and extremely hot weather the `English' way of life was still expected to be adhered to, sometimes ... As an avid amelia fan, I was very keen to read this but as with the Serpent on the Crown, it seems that the formula has run out of steam with these two books. All the important romances are concluded, the war is over, sethos is reformed... basically all the interesting story lines are concluded, and even nefret is getting middle-aged! I dont know if more books are in the pipeline but better perhaps for Ms Peters to go back to filling in the early years - or have ramses & nefret move to greece or rome and start it all over again there...
