I used this book on 2 trips, I organised to the Dolomites.I would highly recommend it, good selection of walks, maybe some a bit on the short side, and lots of other information, such as details of where various buses go. Like any guidebook it is out of date as soon as published, and of course you need to buy a map for the area, but I going back to the Dolomites in July, and will take this book along, together with its companion, "walking in the Dolomites", (many of which can be done in a day).

I used this book on 2 trips, I organised to the Dolomites.I would highly recommend it, good selection of walks, maybe some a bit on the short side, and lots of other information, such as details of where various buses go. I've used this book on 2 trips I organised to the Dolomites, and found it to be excellent, lots of walks, many of which can be completed in a day. If you planning a trip, it's a must buy. You need to buy the Tabacco maps mentioned at the start of each walk, in order to get the most from the book.

i have only done a couple of the suggested walks and the detail is extraordinary. Also, the hints of how to arrive at the starting point helped me alot. and the fact that some of the walks are exactly what a outdoors enthusiast is after...namely the lesser known walks.

I walked the Alta Via 1 this summer in late August/early September. Martin Collins' book is an essential item if you intend to do this fantastic high-altitude trek. The profiles are fairly accurate, and the routes are very well described. The only criticism I had with the book is that some of the timings are ambitious to say the least (I am a very fit, a rower at university) and I have severe problems at keeping up with some of the timings, yet some of the timings I could easily beat. Apart from that, the advice is completely sound (except the bus to Lago di Braines does not leave from Villabassa train station). Great little book with everything you need to know for a short trip to Venice. Good size so it actually does go in your pocket or in my case in my handbag with no difficulty, it also manages to be large enough to give good detailed maps inside the covers. In essence it has a top 10 of everything, overall top 10, top 10 drinks to try, top 10 hotels, top 10 art galleries etc etc etc. Easy to read and holds a wealth of information in one compact place. Great book !
