Books : Norway (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
Found the book a very handy reference for the journey - interesting and well written, with a good deal of practical detail, great value recommendations. Excellent coverage of both cities and more remote areas. The author's own fascination with the country is very contagious. Highly recommended.

Books : Stockholm (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)
Lonely Planet has issued their second edition of their guide to Stockholm. Being the backpackers choice, this guide covers and focus on a wide range of issues that you need to know and see here. They got the "must see" tourist attractions and their guide to hotels and youth hostels are very comprehensive and detailed. The book also gives a good understanding of the culture and the people. Most important it gives you the necessary advices on how to live a budget life in the very nice but rather expensive town of Stockholm. A must have for every person with the intention of exploring the city beoynd the tourist track without running out of money.

Books : Sweden (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)
Finally Sweden has been included in the Lonely Planet family of travelling books. Not the cheapest country or the first you think of when someone says back-packing. This is the first edition and it is easy to tell with numerous spelling misstakes and missing facts. Sure Sweden is quite expensive, but why recommend McDonalds in every city, there are other inexpensive and really good restaurants in this country. A brief chapter covers walking and hiking in Sweden, but there are so much more than that to be said about the subject. So who should buy this guide? It is good when it comes to covering travelling within Sweden between small cities and some of the top attractions, but lacks depth.

Books : Lonely Planet : Iceland, Greenland and Faroe Islands
We tend to travel a lot and we often use the lonely planet books. They are always very useful. However this particular one was very disappointing, a lot of the places of interest are not even listed in the index so you have to go chapter by chapter to read about something. Most of the time, once you have found what you look for, it does not give you much practical information about it (apart from hotels and places to it, which appear to be the highlight).

I found this book very funny, some of the true stories were just hilarious!! Some were quite sad, and some were shocking!! But overall the book was very amusing and i would recommend it for light hearted reading. It's very aptly named for Scotlands true stories, the things folk get up to!!

Books : Scandinavian Europe (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)
First of all this book is a bit US-centric. It keeps mentioning things that us Europeans will not be surprised by, such as LHR being the gateway to Europe. Stansted? Or the fact that we don't fly much domestically. The high prices and short distances involved mean that backpackers planning an itinerary would figure it out for themselves pretty quickly.

This guide covers a huge geographical area and seems to be aimed at people "doing" Scandinavia by jetting or bussing from one city to the next. Once you get to many of the places mentioned, the guide is of little use, for example maps are few and far between.

Then again, Scandinavia counts as part of the developed world, so you don't need Lonely Planet to tell you which dodgy ... Read More:
