This got my 3 1/2 year old laughing in delight at the silly results of his page choices. He would not let me put it down, and though I had initialy bought it as a present for someone else, i will have to buy another copy. He was thrilled to know which stories the pages came from, and mixing them up brought him great entertainment. A big hit.

It wasn't difficult to see that email.Jesus@bethlehem screamed for a sequel but the pressure on authors to come up with something better can often be difficult. Hilary Robinson is not an author to doubt. Her vision of how Jesus might be received today translated through trial by media and appropriate modern day symbolism will make a huge contribution, not only to the RE curriculum but to storysharing too. I heard her interviewed recently and it is clear she has a unique ability to put over the most complex ideas in a concise, sensitive and appealing way. She deserves to do well.

Books : Spells and Smells
This simple idea of allowing the reader to choose storylines by changing the flaps is so clever. It is a perfect book for sharing with a toddler but my son aged 20 thought it was great too! What's more it's funny - the various outcomes are all designed to make children smile. I could see it being used in nurseries and at night-times with mum or dad. Lovely!

Books : The Rough Guide to Venice (Venice, 4th Edition)
I've used this on two visits. And twice it's done it's job admirably. While I can't vouch for the accommodation section - we'd pre-booked - the info on the sights is thorough, though at times a little over the top. For example, the way the author drools over the view from the connecting bridge between Murano and Burano... if I'd written the book, that 'view' wouldn't even have deserved a mention. I prefer guides that tell it as it is - if something's truly outstanding, then I want to know; if it's merely something to see if you're passing, then I want to know I can skip it without being plagued by the thought I might have missed something spectacular. Some things, like Scoule Grande de Rocco (excuse the spelling, but I don't have the book to hand) ... Read More:
