Beautiful book and, like the TV series, is a well presented and informative guide to our planet, its formation and also addresses the problems that may occur from the legacy of human impact.

The Rough Guides rarely disappoint. They are thorough and interesting. My only complaint is that Murcia, as usual in guidebooks like this, just doesn't get the treatment it deserves. I always buy the most recent edition, but suggest you can probably skip an edition now and then!

Took this book on our Honeymoon to Bali in September. Absolutely essential tool for finding the huge number of hidden treasures. We were at Nusa Dua which was poorly covered, but bare in mind that the Lonely books are for your globe trotting surfer.
But the rest of the island was very well covered and gave some great detail on the main attractions.
The Island guide was very useful giving details of local customs and amenities.
Would make sure this is in your pocket when you go.
A few tips
1. Watch the "helpers" at the airport, they will swamp you at the conveyor and fleece you for the pleasure of carrying your bag. Just say no.
2. If you are at one of the big resorts/ hotel complexes, hire you first taxi through ... Read More:

Firstly let me start by saying I love rough guides, much better than the rest in my opinion. I have bought dozens of them and they are of a consistently high standard.

This version was a real let down, this is the second visit to ibiza, I have the mini rough guide for ibiza (published I think in 2003) which I took for my last trip and I thought I'd buy an updated one as this is newly released. This is essentially a cut down version of the other one, the majority of the book is a direct lift from the ond one with no update. You'd be far better buying the other rought guide ibiza book than this 'directions' edition.

My real gripe however are the directions to places listed, which are shocking, we have tried to get to several ... Read More:

This guide proved to be a very useful companion during our trip to Guatemala in August 2006, and was very strong on hotels (we found some amazing places around lake Atitlan)and eating options. The maps were great and bus and shuttle connections useful and generally accurate. Check out the photo section for a good introduction to Guatemala - a wonderful country, allowing us to pick and choose from the highlights suggested.

Tikal was very well covered, with tons of historical info. In fact that is the real strength of this guide - very complete coverage of Guatemala's Maya sites.

7.Journeys from the Centre of the Earth by: Iain Stewart

The book reads clearly and is well put together.
Stewarts style flows through the text and I thoroughly recommend this book to go with the TV series (I wish was on DVD).
The manner in which the geology is explained at is set at all levels and the interest you get from what originally you think of as just rocks was good.

8.Ibiza and Formentera (Mini Rough Guides) by: Iain Stewart

Books : Ibiza and Formentera (Mini Rough Guides)
This book was the ideal companion. For those who have a bit more individuality and go this book is perfect. There are plenty of recommendations of the tucked away and idyllic beaches dotted around the island (which happen to be frequented predominantly by non-British).

Descriptions of places to visit are often amusing with directions along the lines of: "Turn right at the yellow house with shutters, follow the dirt track for 200yds, turn left past some large coniferous trees ...." These usually lead you to some incredible locations which are completely unspoilt.

There is so much more to Ibiza than San Antonio!

extremely disappointing :(

my partner and i bought it since we were going to spend our summer holidays there and this book happenned to be a fiasco. the guide is outdated, several places do not exist anymore, lovely spots and restaurants are not reviewed at all and directions are often confusing

besides, the whole structure of the book is very bad, sections are confusingly divided- not easy for a quick check. the maps are also lame- you'll need to buy separate maps, specially for formentera. the cd rom is just a pdf that needs a password, to access just the exact contents of the book in a single computer

my advice: do not buy this guidebook. go for another one. it will not help make your holidays easier/nicer/exciting, ... Read More:
