This is an interesting account of Alexander's campaigns (the authorhimself was a solider so the emphasis is very much on the militaryside).
However, the writing is quite dated nowadays and the way that the book isdivided into different sections dealing with different aspects ofAlexander's generalship is logical but not a page-burner.
Having said that, it is an interesting and detailed account and wasobviously written before the advent of expensive TV history programmes andcomputer simulations of battlegrounds and troop movements.
I have just started the author's work on Julius Caesar and I am finding itequally hard-going, although still enjoyable.

Fuller is the only military writer I know of who has (had) the skill and depth of knowledge necessary to produce a work like this without making a fool of himself. He certainly doesn't, and he makes consistently good sense throughout the book.

Whatever your area of interest, you will learn a lot from this highly readable piece of work.

Julius Ceasar is without doubt amongst the giants of history and his life is very interesting. The book is however a bit heavy to read and although I presume it is quite accurate it doesn't flow.

I found the book fairly easy to read at the beginnig and again throughout the civil war with Pompay. But the middle half and better part describes his campaigns in Gaul. This part was for me the most tedious to read, all the different tribes allying or waring against Ceasar from time to time becomes hard and a bit boring to follow as well as the constant mention of ...here he stayed because there was a good supply of corn ...he waited until he could supply his army with corn. All in all I think corn is mentioned about two times every page during the Gallic Wars and ... Read More:

I first read JFC Fuller's book many years ago, and found it fascinating. He is a big fan of Clausewitz, and he discusses Clausewitz's "On War" in some depth. Unlike "On War" itself, which can be difficult to follow, as Clausewitz ilustrated his points with examples from 18th/19th century campaigns; Fuller uses more modern examples (i.e. WW2) which will be more familiar to most readers.

If you are a student of military theory and are struggling with Clausewitz, read this first then read "On War" - it will make a lot more sense that way.

Fuller's last chapter (on communism) has been overtaken by events, but the rest of the book is pure gold.

Aleister Crowley called 'The Treasure House of Images', "The most remarkable prose that has ever been written." It must be made clear though, if you're thinking of buying this book, that it was not written by Crowley as the title would seem to suggest.

The main text of this volume is Liber DCCCCLXIII (963) written by a student of Crowley's, JFC Fuller. It consists of hymns or meditations upon the 12 signs of the Zodiac, the Sun and the Moon, as well as a chapter comprising 169 Cries of Adoration. This text is designated Class B and so forms part of the curriculum of the AA - the Probationer is charged to learn by heart the chapter corresponding to his/her rising sign, or, if this this is not known, the chapter relating to the Sun.
