this book is worth it for the truffle tort. try it this is one of thoose things you make for a feeling down day with the girls. i made it for a party on new years everyone loved it. made it for work on my birthday 2 people have bought the book just based on that. the only thing that would beat this is if james made it for me at my home i can wish. the carrot cake isnt a traditional carrot cake but my partner doesnt like carrot cake i dont like fruit but this suited us both. buy it

I concede that there are a few good recipes in this book but certainly nothing that is particuarly new or exciting but on the other hand I never got passed page 22. There are quite literally thousands of cook books out there covering every aspect of cooking from the basics to the A La Carte, so I urge you for the sake of the Queens sovereign 'DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK'. I really was insulted to find on page 22 a recipe for a 'Sausage sarnie with tomato ketchup', even to call it a recipe was a cheek! He doesn't tell you how to make your sausage or which type of the 100's of varieties and flavours you should buy or even whether to use pork or not, he doesn't tell you how to make the bread for the 'Sarnie' or again what type. As a Foo's fan i thought this book would give some insight into a man who I much admire, and respect what he does. On reading this well in want of a better word -poop- is the only way to discribe this peicing together of a collection of news paper reports and some wee anecdotes that the author has found. In some ways the beano is written better. Sorry in every way the beano is written better than this excuse for an autobiography. This was hum drum and very boring. I have had the good fortune not to buy this as a friend had a copy and he was swiftly kicked in the stones for letting me waste my time with this tiolet material. Synopsis AVOID AVOID AVOID

I bought this book, having tried several of James Martin's others and having found them to be excellent, sadly the binding on this book is poor, with pages falling out in batches as you open it to use it ....... what a shame given the content which is second to none, and the layout which has obviously had a great deal of thought put into it, as it takes you through halloween, bonfire night, and Christmas with lots of great ideas for winter warming recipes both traditional and new...... a definite recommend for the content, but a thumbs down to the publishers on the shoddy binding.

I am currently studying on the EdExcel science GCSE course, and I have to say, the quality of this book is appalling. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy "science", but this book it just dreadful. Personal complaints: 1. Book content doesn't always match the exam. Often the exam asks about things which havn't even been mentioned in the book, or have been quashed in a little table to the side and made to look unimportant when actually it is important to learn. 2. Random pictures on many pages irrelevant to the topic, or have been bashed together poorly. For example, there's a picture on a page of some random guy, and the caption under it is something like "X cares about X". They may as well have gone round London for a day taking photos ... Unlike many of the new textbooks for GCSE Science, this one offers more than just pretty pictures and basic text that barely covers the specification. Instead the whole design is colourful, bright and replete with interesting photographs and excellent diagrams. The content sticks closely to the requirements of the specification and manages to keep a reader's interest by stopping occasionally to make you think by way of "Have you ever wondered?" questions, e.g. should we switch to nuclear power to combat global warming? As someone who has recently come to back to cooking after too many years of ready made meals, I don't consider myself a natural cook so this book has done wonders for my cooking confidence! These recipes are easy to follow & not only do they taste fantastic but they actually turn out looking just like the mouth watering photos! Its an honest down to earth book full of very tasty recipes for food I grew up on. The ingredients are stuff you have probably already got in your kitchen, as long as you have a decent stock of herbs and spices you'll be fine. I've now bought more of James Martin's recipe books and I LOVE cooking again.
