I want Nan as a friend! I wish she would adopt me. I thought she was the best female charactor I have read about in a long time. All the charactors were believable and I cared what happened to them all. This is Jane Green's best book in a while, The Beach House is definately somewhere I would want to visit! Get this book I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

This book has no strong plot, the characters are under developed and the last few chapters are very strange. Furthermore, if you want to experience the symptoms of clinical depression, read this book! A total utter waste of time...it certainly doesnt deserve a second chance!

This book reads like a 'chick-lit by numbers'. It was described as 'the ultimate makeover story, with irony', yet by the end I was left to wonder where the hell the irony was? Where was any sort of self-awareness? Instead we have a really obvious story - fat girl has no friends, fat girl cries herself to sleep eating biscuits, fat girl gets thin and suddenly has an amazing life. The characters had absolutely no depth, the only smiles the book raised were unintentional (i.e. creepy Jemima cutting out photos of models), and it's so unbelievably dated! The internet and internet dating may have seemed fresh back then, but now it's just cringeworthy. Don't buy this book - spend the money on something better: perhaps biscuits. ... Read More:

When I started this book, I couldn't help feeling that the author hadn't really put too much thought into her characters. As I went on, I couldn't bring myself to empathise with these cardboard cut out caricatures. Though the story is a decent enough idea, it's carried out with too much sugar and not enough grit. That it has a happy ending is hardly a suprise, and there's no kind of struggle or hardship to get to it, and so is basically meaningless. I finished the book, and did find the odd moment amusing, but mostly found the whole thing too sweet and too pat to be satisfying.

i got this book free from a magazine, and i wasnt disappointed, its an amazing book..... its one of the books that defiently makes you laugh out loud and dont want to put down. esp love the cats name dave!! hahaha thought that was classic, she is one of my fav authours... if havent read it, i would suggest it

Well what can I say? This book had me gripped from beggining to end. I couldn't put it down. The plot was fantastic. I could totally relate to Libby and I'm sure many other women could too. I don't usually leave reviews on books but I felt with this book I just had to let everyone know what a book it is. I was so tempted to jump to the last page to see what was going to happen but I'm so glad I didn't. Much praise for Jane Green.

If all you want is a simple 'comfort read' or something to read beside the pool on holiday, this should more than meet your needs. An uncomplicated little novel about a group of friends who met at university and are now in their early thirties. You may find they are quite chlicheed but I was still absorbed by them. I wept with them and laughed with them throughout the novel. Don't be expecting anything 'high-brow' but if you enjoy the likes of Maeve Binchey, Marian Keyes, Sophie Kinsella and so on, I don't think you will find anything to object to in 'Bookends'.

I must say I am enjoying Jane Green more and more as I read her books and this one casts a sort of spell on you that makes you want to keep reading until you get to the end -the ending was bit predictable but didnt disappoint the read! What can I say she has another fan! well done!
