I scanned through this book in about half an hour. I like JSP, and admire what she has done in her career, but I thought this book was truly unworthy of her considerable talents. I felt it was simply a money making exercise.

Anyone over the age of 40 will not learn anything new. You realise after about age 25 that all the face creams advertising a makeover to become Nicole Kidman's twin are lies, and that nothing over the counter will make any difference to the way you look. You begin to see that all those Bimbo beauty analysts behind the counters really believe all that beauty pseudobabble, but now you realise that they also believe in tooth fairies. Having spent years trawling through the London beau monde hairdressing salons ... Read More:

I bought this book last year hoping that it would give me an insight into the life of Janet Street Porter.
What I got was a brilliantly written, hilarious and extremly bitter account of Janet's childhood and the loathing of her parents.
"Baggage" is a truely superb read that keeps the reader entertained and hooked as Janet tells her story with extreme honesty.
This is a book written in blood, sweat and tears, I can truely recommened this fantastic paperback.
PS --- "Fall Out" is the follow up to this book and the story of how she reached the heights of journalism, again, GREAT read

After reading Janet's first book, the superb "Baggage", i couldn't wait to get into her sequal "Fall Out". I certainly was not disapointed, what a read, hilarious, gribbing and inspirational. This book covers Janet's life from the late 60s to 1979, her success in the media and most of all, the fantastic characters that she met along the way.
This autobiography really is a page turner, written like the pro she is and a great read for not just the one occassion.

Books : Coast to Coast: From Dungeness to Weston-super-Mare and Cardiff to Conwy
I found "Coast to Coast" by the legendary Janet Street Porter to be very interesting and it encouraged me to visit the places that she visted during her TV shows and mentioned within this book. Many great, beautiful photographs are included and are a bonus.
If your interested in and enjoy walking, this is a brilliant, well written book for you to read.

Books : As the Crow Flies: A Walk from Edinburgh to London - in a Straight Line
I really did enjoy reading this book, I am a big fan of Janet Street Porter but even those who aren't so keen on her should give this book a go too.
It covers Janet's impressive walk of 350 miles from Edinburgh Observatory to Greenwich Observatory in a straight line and there are large sections of it which will had me howling with laughter and making me want to read on. I paticularly enjoyed the stories of the people she met through her travels including some very famous people. It also makes for fasnating reading as Janet takes you through different areas and places and documents well as to what she discovered. In all, this is a fantastic companion book to her great TV series from the 90s.
Highly recommened!
