A terrific finale!

This trilogy came as close to satisfying my fantasy itch for the ongoing 'Ice and Fire' series by GRRM (well, the first three books anyway), and the incredible 'Malazan Book of the Fallen' series by Steven Erikson, as any book (series) ever has.

This final installment of Abercrombie's 'The First Law' series neatly ties up all the open ended threads that where expertly developed in the previous two books. And, it would appear, to also leave a suggestion for a new adventure in the future.

The story continues with the sequential telling of the happenings to the wizard Bayaz, Commander West, Dogman, Jezal, Logen, Ferro and Glokta. And as you might suspect, these 'individual' tales come ... Read More:

This the senond of the trillogy (?) is an improvement on the first which I found very enjoyable. He has created characters you feel empathy for and although slightly formulaic and repetative he nevertheless continues you on a roller coaster trip. I find it hard to put down- a good sign. He does use one phrase to an irritating extent (back to the mud!)otherwise this is good stuff. Keep it up.

Based on others reviews I brought the first and second book. The first book I read and spent the entire time waiting for what I felt could be building to happen. The same with the second. I'm nearly to the end of the 3rd book (my brother brought) and I'm still waiting but have resigned myself to the fact that it won't.
I read a lot of these sort of books as well as thrillers, comedy and romances and I'd say this series is a well executed story, the characters are engaging and well written, the racial differences and social class divides are amusingly exploited. However for me there is something missing. I'm left feeling mildly disappointed.
