The Lonely Planet guidebooks are deservedly the default choice for many travellers. This lastest edition (2007) of the Lonely Planet guide to Spain goes a long way to answering those critics who say that European countries have sometimes been Lonely Planet's Achille's heel. This is an excellent guidebook to Spain, both for those who just want to visit the well-known highlights as well as for those who enjoy getting off the beaten track. The language is informal, perhaps a reflection of the publisher's target audience and the overall feel is unstuffy. Despite an unusually high number of flaws, this is nevertheless a book that will help you get the most out of your time in Andalucia. Perhaps I just expect too much of Lonely Planet (LP), but it's their own fault. They've stood by me so many times in so many different places in the past that I was beginning to take everything they told me as The Only Advice In Town. So when I arrived in Seville I quickly got into the LP groove and hit La Bella Estrella, a "jazz bar". Well, perhaps I'd arrived the day they buried the proprietor, but there was no jazz going on there, so off I went to Naima Café Jazz, happily only about five doors away down Calle Trajan. The three reviews below refer to the old edition of this book. The new version has been entirely rewritten and re-researched. As part of the team who helped write it I should leave the reviews to other people, but I think the criticism of not including Ukraine is quite unfair given that the book never claims to do so!
