As a professional programmer I wondered whether this was going to patronise me too much; I needn't have worried, Walkenbach's approach is just right. He tells it like it is, with plenty of good examples and real world applications for those examples. I'm sure Walkenback doesn't expect this book to teach you everything about Excel and whilst using it I searched for other examples on the 'Net which reinforced what he was teaching me. But this was the book that provided me with the central learning experience and for which I am eternally grateful. Thanks John!

OK...received the book this morning so I haven't really read through it yet. It has a lot of pages!! ermm its very thick...looks impressive. What else? ermmmm its a reference book for more advanced use of Excel, so really its a 'no brainer'...any book would do.

I am a self-taught VBA programmer with moderate to good understanding of VBA and was looking for a book to take me to the next skill level. Most books I have bought so far (about 5!) have been relatively hopeless, being either too basic or far too technical. However, John Walkenbach's book is in a league of its own. It starts off simply enough but rapidly and effortlessly works up to more complex ideas and scripts. He provides you with lots of handy tips and tricks and ensures you have a good grounding in each topic before advancing. His language is simple and easy to read with lots of working examples and a wide array of topics. This book is really excellent and I can HIGHLY recommend it for a user of almost any skill ... I didn't realise Excel has had a significant update at 2007 - but I'm still using Excel 2003. At the end of the first chapter the book states (a little too late) if you're not using Excel 2007 then you've bought the wrong book. Great that's me.

If you are looking to learn vba for excel then buy this book! it is in plain clear english, with useful help files and tutorials. This book also really does help with vb skills on a whole and will help all looking to master this area of computing. In short Mr speadsheet is a hero!! long may he help us all!!

I am an experienced, self-taught user of Excel but bought this book to see if there was anything in it that could help me advance my skills further. This book did far more than that! It is really great and I can highly recommend it, (particularly the section about the use of arrays in Excel.) John Walkenbach provides you with lots of handy tips and tricks and ensures you have a good grounding in each topic before advancing. His language is simple and easy to read with lots of working examples and a wide range of topics. This book is really excellent and I can HIGHLY recommend it for a user of almost any skill level. I have since bought the book whilst at several companies and regard it as essential in my work. It has chapters on various topics and I can find advanced features quickly and easily, whereas I haven't been able to do that with on-line help. An excellent book for anyone that uses Excel heavily.
