I have just finished this latest instalment of The Wardstone Chronicles, and I like some others rate this as the best so far, even though I did kind of guess what was going to happen/be explained, and let me admit I don't feel at all guilty about reading 'kids' books - and I'm 36, (might feel abit guilty about ignoring the family while reading though). I stumbled upon the series late last year and eagerly read one after the other, now I'm in the position I was in a few years ago when I had to wait for the next Potter book.

My son loved this book, and the minute he had finished it said, 'Can we get the rest?' One cautionary note - it is quite dark in places, with some pretty gruesome imagery - probably why my son enjoyed it so much! - but I would say it's for twelves and up as it does deal with some serious moral questions.

Loved the book, great unique plotline and a wonderful writer. Will now be reading the others in the series.

I read this book last night and could not put it down. As with the other books in the series, it was fast paced and exciting. I found myself in a perpetual state of anticipation and that is what I want from any reading experience. It was certainly worth it for any fan of The Wardstone Chronicles.

I read this book last night and could not put it down. As with the other books in the series, it was fast paced and exciting. I found myself in a perpetual state of anticipation and that is what I want from any reading experience. It was certainly worth it for any fan of The Wardstone Chronicles.

HI there, I too almost bought this one thinking it was new so I'm grateful to the writer of the first review for the warning. I really enjoyed these books though, there are four out at the moment (spook's apprentice, curse, secret and battle) and I was trawling for another. My daughter (11) has dyslexia but she has persevered with these because she has enjoyed them so much. Good characters that you grow to love and plots that are just scary enough with out sending her over the edge! We can't wait for the next one.

the book is quite possibly the best one i have ever read, a bit grusome though. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

this series of books first appeared in the united kingdom, then in america a year later. for what ever reason, the titles and cover art was changed- causing some confusion to buyers. however, if you do a little research before, you can figure out which is which. the books that use the word "spook" in the title are the uk editions. the american titles and order are: revenge of the witch curse of the bane night of the soul stealer (the fourth not released yet) that being said, i do enjoy this series. i wouldn't reccommend it to such a young audience, though. it can get quite descriptive with violence! i hope this clears up the confusion w/ the titles!
