I think this is the most accurate book on English culture that I have read for a while. The main draw-back is the small dense font and academic style of the book. For non-natives I think this book would be too daunting to tackle.

For the first time in my life I am 427 pages into a book, and I cannot finish it. I cannot bring myself to read anymore of this garbage. Everyone involved in the advertising and marketing of this book should be ashamed.

This book was a an absolute joy to read. As a lifelong racegoer, I had never given the slightest thought to the customs or rituals that go on at a racemeeting. The book is a relaxed and entertaining read, and Kate Fox writes in a humourous and self deprecating manner.

Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in horse racing!

Books : Schooling for Success: With William Fox-Pitt
I brought this book after a friend recommended it, I have read many similar books but found this to be one of the best of its kind. The success of the book is simple. Fox-pitt chooses not to focus on the horses misgivings, (I find books that do this tend to become overly professional and specialist for the averagely minded rider.) Instead he focuses on the key faults of the rider, most of these faults are applicable to many riders and I personally found that by changing such small points in my approach to riding, my young horse subsequently went much more correctly. Moreover I found the book very digestable, it contained relatively little text, but consisted mainly of step-by-step pictures which showed both correct and incorrect methods, in which the rider's faults became very obvious ...
