I was once an avid fan of K.R However her books are getting more technical and borders on the boring, she includes every minute details of process, and while this might be required by a court of law, it isn't all required by the reader. and her on/off love affair with the infamous Det Ryan, well that's about as predictable as M & S TV add, in other words, you read it in the past that many times, why oh why does she have to go on so much, and the amount of double and triple blank seperation pages are increasing with each book.

This is my first Kathy Reichs book, and althought my sister-in-law gave my wife and I 6 of her books, we have both agreed that we won't be reading the rest anytime soon. The pace of the book is slow and the prose overcooked. I like a book to keep me awake/entertained for perhaps an hour before sleep, this book had me nodding off after 10 mins. I found it hard work but I kept going. My wife gave up after 110 pages. Pity I do so love when we find a new author.

Once again I was bowled over by Kathy Reichs. She manages to give her readers a wealth of information without ever talking down to them. She weaves subplots together like the master she's become, and in only two books. Though, sadly, she does at times withhold information from the readers that she shouldn't. If it's told in the first person and our heroine knows the info or clues, then we should too, however this is just a niggling and minor complaint and didn't really take away from the book at all.

The book opens with Tempe in a church graveyard. A long dead nun is being considered for sainthood and Tempe is charged with aiding the Church's investagation. The bones aren't where they're supposed to be, but Tempe can't give this her full attention, ... Read More:

Hello,
How are yoo? I'm fine up here in Dunfermline town in the great country of Scotland. I'm cooking a haggis along with some cabbage for breakfast so I'll have to be quick.
This book is quite excellent. It's more thrilling than the Battle of Stirling scene in Braveheart, which says a lot. Or not. Anyhoo, I was really really impressed with the latest instalment in the adventures of Tempe Brennan, who wanders around North America, particularly Montreal, in search of murders and more importantly, the murderers themselves. It may not be exactly in the style of Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot, but it has a distinctive style of its own. It's probable closest to Inspector Clousseau in the Pink Panther films.
I must go noo cos my haggis is burning ... Read More:

A nine year old girl is murdered during a crossfire between motorcycle gangs. Tempe gets involved. During the investigation she manages to find a North Carolina/Montreal connection, which was a little coincidental in the last book, too much this time. The blood spatter description was way too long and unlike the forensic descriptions in her last two books, was boring. She fights too much with the cops and makes stupid decisions the Tempe in the first two books never would have made. Her nice guy nephew seems to have gotten all stupid as well. And if all that isn't enough, Reichs went a little over the top in making the bikers so bad.

All that said though, I still found "Deadly Decisions" to be a fast, fun read and am giving it three stars.

Tempe is in Guatemala, helping to unearth the bodies of 28 villagers disappeared (killed by the govt.) during the civil war there. Two of her colleagues are attacked, one dies. Tempe has to be careful, as there could still be people in the government that were involved in the massacre.

Then she gets involved with the disappearance of four girls, one of them the daughter of the Canadian ambassador and all of a sudden the authorities that were so eager for her help with the decomposing bodies of the villagers want her out of Dodge.

To add to the plot there is a Latin love interest who just happened to go to school with old flame Ryan who comes to Guatemala because one of the four missing girls is the daughter of the Canadian Ambassador.

I have never read any of Reich's work before and have to say this has sat on the shelf for over a year waiting its turn to be read.

I was intrigued from the start with her natty way of narration and the way she describes the persons mood after they have spoken. She writes in an almost scientific commentary of her lead character's adventures.

The lead character, Tempe Brennan specialises in postmortem study of bones to determine causes of death and what has lead up to that death. In this particular case, she is called to assist an ailing friend who is County Pathologist in a fairly remote part of Southern Carolina, whilst actually supervising an archaeological dig. She discovers a body that doesn't appear to be ancient Native American as would be expected on this dig. ... Read More:

Tempe Brennan hears on the radio while driving through North Carolina that a plane has gone down. She rushes to the scene, saves a decomposed foot from a pack of coyotes, finds out foot didn't belong on the plane, was from a much older death. What was it doing there? Why is she suddenly thrown off the team investigating the crash?

And that's just the start of this fast paced, true to life, mystery thriller that will have you up all night, reading with your pulse pounding as you race through the pages.

This five star book is heads and hands above "Deadly Decisions." It's so much better that it's hard to believe the same woman authored them both. It's as if Kathy Reichs knew she let her fans down a little with the last one and wanted to make up for it. Well she did, in spades. "Fatal ... Read More:

Having read the other books,I thought this one started off well. Different to her other books which with the same formula for each one can so easily become boring. So, a refreshing change this time and I did not mind at all the Dan Brown element to it, however, I was sorely disappointed with the ending, its as though she wimped out completely and stopped writing!! Where's the rest Kathy???
