Good but as with all travel guides you need the latest edition and this one is a bit dated. Dubai is changing so fast you must keep up to date.I also prefer smaller size guides that will fit the pocket. Lonely Planet is a bit too large to carry especially when the temperature is ove 100 F. But if you plan to go you must do the Big Bus Tour. It is the best introduction to the city.

As a guide from lonely planet, of which I have many copies for other countries, this one just isnt quite right.

It doesnt quite follow the usual and sucessful format of the 'standard' lonely planets and is therefore a quite confusing and vague. The usual mine of info on hotels, restaurants and concise descriptions of the sights etc are either watered down or non existent or in alphabetical order so you dont know which is best or what is nearby..
Perhaps The worst aspect of this book is the photos and descriptions of the sights. The descriptions are so poor and long winded that I am left not really knowing what the sight actually is, let alone what there is to see there, what is good about it or where it is. Instead you have ... Read More:

5.Rome (Lonely Planet City Map) by: Lonely Planet Publications
2001-02
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Rome (Lonely Planet City Map)
Several maps in one, large scale and small scale, including all the major tourist attractions highlighted in a different colour, this was easy to read and follow. I particularly like the fact that it's laminated, so that negotiating the city centre in February in drizzle doesn't leave you with a soggy mess instead of a map.

This book is full of great information that is well presented and planned out. It is great to pick up to have a quick look at or read in more detail. Either way you'll get some inspiration to actually go to some of these great places or just sit on your sofa and dream. There are great pictures!

I have a number of these journals - 1 for each journey. Here I can note down the diary of my trip and on the facing page there is space for those keepsakes you pick up while travelling - beermats, receipts, beer and wine labels, tickets to attractions......... or am I the only sad person who wants to keep all this stuff together ??

The format and cross referencing of this book is terrible.

A ridiculous amount of the cross referencing is inaccurate resulting in you spend most of the time standing in the street looking like a lemon trying to work out exactly what you're heading too. Also the map provide has one major inaccuracy, the astronomical clock is not circa two streets from the old square, its in it.

I have always been a fan of Lonely Planet but this guide is a massive massive disappointment.
