I too found this book boring and found each chapter much the same as the one before - couldn't quite see the point of it all but having said that I did enjoy her accounts of her own upbringing etc as we seemed to be the same age and I could relate to that ! Maybe it is more for people in the same profesion as her who could relate to the classroom.. I love most books about Italy but this one I'm afraid no.

I bought this book as I love reading books about people living and working in Italy since I too live and work in Italy. I got this before moving to Sicily, and started it...and never finished it. I wish I had not bothered to by this book. It is so boring, there is nothing exciting or interesting to make you want to keep reading. I have read many a good book in my time, many an ok book...and now many a boring book.

I smiled all the way through this short but absorbing diary of life in a remote Sicilian school. In many respects it's a cross between the The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Cinema Paradiso, it certainly has the feelgood factor of the latter. Need I say any more?!
