Have just bought this for a family trip to Italy in a few weeks. This CD is great, very attractive to listen to - rather than a chore (my wife enjoyed listening to it compared to other ones shw would ask me to turn off!) Production is great, background music is very good and really adds to the experience, but the way it gives and then breaks down phrases that you are very likely to use gets you using words and phrases straightaway. I would consider using EarWorm again (e.g. for French)

Volume 1 has already been useful - my wife, daughter and myself were in Greece a couple of months ago and having even limited skills in the language totally changed the attitude of the locals towards us! Christine (daughter) was a great hit around the town we were staying in as she was the only British child who had any skills at all in the language. The Rosetta Stone system is pretty good (and goes further) - but for pain free and quick learning of basics of a language at sensible prices, I'm really impressed with the Earworms method! Volume 2 expands on vol 1 - although it can mostly be used standalone, you'll want some of the parts from Vol 1 - particularly the numbers track. This volume leads you into ... Read More:

Bought Rapid French Vol.1 a year ago and had listenend to the product sitting at home in front of the CD player. Gave up with it after two weeks as the effort of taking an hour off from my schedule wasn't worth it for me. Gave the product another try after buying an iPod and since then I have found it worked much better- the background music and the rhythmic repititions of English phrases and the French translation immediately whilst set to 'techno' music seemed to burn into my head well- perhaps too well as I developed sinusitis for the first ten days. I very much enjoyed the learning experience and found it stuck but then when speaking to Chinese (mandarin speakers) they couldn't understand me. The tape doesn't focus on the tones and intonations needed for Mandarin. I switched to a Harold Goodman audiobook and found I was much more understood because of the focus on the correct intonations. Maybe these tapes work well with other languages as the music in the background does seem to help the learning experience but I found them of little use for Mandarin.
