I used this for my GCSE english and found it very useful. The layout is very easy to use and navigate and makes learning this novel much easier. It is set out neatly and I thought that it was really interesting. I found that if i used them in conjunction with my school notes I had pretty much all the information that I could possibly need. Over the years I know many people who have used this book and there has only been good reviews. I highly recommend it.

Embarrassingly I found the questions devilishly difficult, it was great fun trying to answer them and I tested my boyfriend too. A great alternative to board games for some after dinner entertainment!

Some of the questions here really are howlers, but a lot of this is just much of a muchness and stops being entertaining. I wouldn't recommend it.

I have never been a big fan of short stories, but this is a fantastic collection, I read it non-stop from beginning to end. It also has an excellent list in the back of the book of further reading for fans of apocalyptic fiction.

I write for a living and I also train others to improve their writing and this lovely little book as been a godsend. I encourage everyone I ever teach to buy it (or get the boss to buy it for them). It's written so well that you can relax with it over a cup of tea or read it on the train home after a tiring day's work and it won't send you to sleep! It is practical, approachable and has everything it says that good writing should: clarity, simplicity, economy, variety, vigour and suitability. Mind you, I would have called it the Penguin Writers' Manual. I wonder if they agonised over that. Maybe they want us all to have one each, not to share.

a fantastic book for anyone studying speech and language therapy. I have just completed my first year and couldnt have got by without this book, although the appendix doesnt contain everything the book actually does. It covers all areas from embrology to neuroanatomy and is explained in a simple language for everyone to understand whether you have studied anatomy at Alevel or not. It really is the little black book for speech and language therapists and i recommend all students to buy a copy it is more than worth the price.
