Despite the fact that it can be infuriatingly slow at times I am something of a fan of the Naruto anime series and came to this manga after I heard it was much better with less filler. I would have to agree with this as I have found this manga far more focused and easier to get into than the anime ever was.

This first volume of the manga sees Naruto being trained and tested so that he can become a Ninja. The artwork is good while the plot itself is well written and quite funny. There are a few minor differences from the anime but these are easy to get use to and I am probably enjoying these early books more than I did the early anime episodes. Overall, although I have read better manga in the past, Naruto is nonetheless entertaining ... Read More:

This second volume of the Naruto manga resolves the cliff-hanger from the last volume relatively swiftly and the action soon concentrates on the missions that Naruto and friends get up to as fully fledged ninja. Naruto quickly tires of the menial tasks that he and Team 7 are given and pushes for a more exciting mission and eventually Lord Hokage grants his wish, acting as a bodyguard for the master bridge builder Tazuna. Not everything is as seems, however, and Team 7 is soon embroiled in a fight for their lives.

This is a great improvement on the previous volume as although the humour is toned down slightly here the action has been greatly increased and there is some background for the setting and the nature of chakra. This is also the first ... Read More:

This third volume of the Naruto manga continues Team 7's mission to the Land of Waves to protect the bridge builder Tazuna. With Kakashi still recovering from his fight with Zabuza, Naruto and his friends must learn a new technique so that they will be ready for the trials that lay ahead. This volume also includes a bit of back-story for the Land of Waves and Tazuna's family.

This volume continues the great series very well and although I did prefer the previous volume I still greatly enjoyed this one. The art is good and the story is well written with some good action, some funny moments and, at one point a nice incite into Naruto's character as well. This manga is greatly entertaining and the cliff-hanger at the end of this volume should keep ... Read More:

This fourth volume of the Naruto manga is mostly taken up with the conclusion of the mission to the Land of Waves. Once this adventure has been finished the members of Team 7 return home only to face new challenges in the form of the Chunin Exam.

The conclusion of the fight between Team 7 and Zabuza and Haku does present some of the best action of the series so far. The ending of this arc is slightly corny but this is more than made up for with some surprisingly emotional scenes as well. The Chunin Exam storyline has little in the way of action in this volume but it does introduce some new players to the series quite well and sets things up nicely for the next volume.

Overall the Naruto manga continues to be funny and interesting, with ... Read More:
