I have read 2 "... in easy steps" books so far, starting with C++ programming in easy steps. Both titles have demonstrated the same brilliant qualities. They are easy to read and follow without compromise on relevance and quality of the content. I feel this is achieved nicely by the "straight to the point" approach of the author coupled with the relevant code examples. I was interested in finding out what differences there are between C and C++ and this book did a brilliant job of that as well as helping me get a good grip on the C specific syntax. I managed to cover the entrire book in 1 afternoon and evening. C is now no longer a mystery and i will now be looking to get a copy of K&R. I bought this book for a colleague on the assumption that it would be a general introduction to Linux for beginners. Earlier reviews had erroneously suggested it was specific to the Suse distribution releases which would have been fine for us as that's what we usually use (with KDE desktop). Unfortunately, for our purposes, it turns out it is based on Ubuntu, this would not be a problem if it was made clear that this was the case and if it pointed out where it was being distribution or desktop environment specific. If you are just starting with a Linux based system and have already chosen/installed Ubuntu then this is a fine introduction. This is an excellent book for starters. Mike Mcgarth is an expert in explaining complicated stuff in simple and plain english. This book takes you from Basics upto complicated Threads. The author also gives further resources to be explored. Lastly the layout and illustrations of the book is very good i,e mostly one page deals with one sub topic. I have rated this as 4 start for 2 reason . Reason one is, The author has used JPad pro as IDE which is available only as Shareware. He could have used Eclipse or JCreator which have freeware versions. Reason two is, The author has not discussed anything about java debugging. Still I recommend this as a top book for beginners. I have tried learning XML from other books and they are made with so much "fluff" that it is hard to stay focused on the facts. This book has just enough talk to make it interesting but each paragraph is mostly for gaining knowledge instead of creating some sort of dialoge with the reader. If you are having a tough time staying interested in learning XML this is definately refreshing. You can take most all of the examples in the book and apply them hands-on for quick feedback on what you have learned. Every part of this book is easy to understand and gives great reference once you are using XML and want to take a quick look back. I would like exercise sections at the end of each chapter though but the book functions great, as intended.

When i started reading this, I just read like a story book. The book is interesting and takes you logically through all chapters. Also the chapters are subdivided into easier ones. I highly recommend this books for all beginners. I have also become a great fan of ineasysteps after reading this book. I've always assumed that I knew enough CSS to manage, but I picked up this book in bookshop and was really impressed with it as an easily-readable summary of CSS tags. I bought it, and it's proved both a useful reference and a source of additional information I didn't know. While it may not be suitable for complete HTML novices, I found its conciseness a benefit because it makes it simple to flick through to find things.

Although this book is in easy steps I found that a little previous knowledge is needed, or good. it can be used by the complete beginner however. It gives a good, if a little brief, overview of javascript with lots of working examles for you to try. It does only give the barebones though and so is not a comprehensive read.

I worked my way through this book as a complete notice and found it quite easy to pick up. Can even be read before going to sleep, it is that easy going. The best part of the book is the actual page quality and feel, they have a way of making quite technical pages seem straight forward. I recommend this book, and myself bought the css one. If you are looking to take your first steps into PHP (mysql) then this is the correct book to purchase. I little basic programming knowledge is handy so some may find themselves getting lost but everyone has to start somewhere. The book on the whole is clear and easy to follow (beware that some of the examples do not work, this is down to little differences in some platforms) that said you can get a good basic grounding in PHP from this book.
