I love this book! I remember it from when I was a kid, (more than 30 years ago!) I have been searching for it for ages for my 3 year old son who loves books, and he loves it too. Not sure if it has changed over the years, but it's very much the same as I remember it to be.

I bought this on a whim when purchasing another item for my daughter's birthday and I must admit that it is a pretty wee book which I know she will enjoy, however it is expensive for what it is. My advice is that you can get similar for cheaper from a supermarket if you can get to one or go to a library. Not the best, but by no means the worst!

"This old man, he played one, he played knick-knack on my drum". I never understood what a knick-knack was as a child and am non-the-wiser now. However I always loved this catchy rhyme. I bought the book to enhance the singing of the rhyme to my first toddler. The book is pleasant enough, but I don't feel that the illustrations marry up to the rhyme particularly well. For instance, "This old man, he played two, he played knick-knack on my shoe" is illustrated by a dancing pirate who has a wooden leg! Also, each page has a cut-out hole and the number of holes, and the pictures that you see through them don't have much of a bearing on the rhyme or the number in question. My 22 month old daughter absolutely loves this book and CD. When I play the CD she walks around carrying the book. I think it is sung really well with a catchy tune that kids love.
