Whenever I go traveling I always take a Lonely Planet with me, they are indispensable and Peru was no exception. While the book served me well and ensured my travels where well informed and trouble free.

But!, I feel the book is not up to lonely planets usual standard, the whole book was pitched at a too negative tone, it had me thinking I would be raped/mugged/attacked every 5 mins, to the contrary I felt entirely safe for all the time I was there. Many of the prices where incorrect despite the books recent publish date, I also found the descriptions of many of the hotels to be wrong, it seemed as if they had been randomly shuffled in editing.

I have visited quite a few Greek islands and found this book extremely useful. I recently went to the Cyclades and the detail was excellent, however if you're going to Syros/Myknonos area I'd also pack Nobble Hospital of the Aegean by Paul Judges which offers some fascinating insights.

Books : Cyprus (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)
Unless you are a tree hugging, hippy from Geneva, this guide, as always with the Lonely Planets range (and I have used them extensively), is excellent and covers all areas very well. P.s. Make sure you hire a car in Cyprus as the bus networks are not very reliable and mostly go into the suburbs :-)

Books : Crete (Lonely Planet Regional Guides)
Lonely Planet has finally got its act together and upgraded the badly flawed and messy 1st edition of its traveller's guide to Crete. The 1st edition while 75% there just had too many inaccuracies and inconsistencies to be considered a good guide: directions were often 180 degrees out, maps were incorrect, recommendations were strangely pitched at travellers with more money than taste and that front cover ...urrgh!

All that has changed with the new edition of the Crete guide, published in February 2002. This book, after an initial review by this critic, is a stunner and a winner. With a striking Minoan fresco painting as a front cover the book looks immediately tight and controlled. The two new special sections on the 'Minoans' and 'Back ... Read More:

Books : Greek (Lonely Planet Phrasebook)
This the best Greek phase book on the market for practicality and every day use. It has guides to pronunciation and grammar and most importantly phonetics for most Greek phrases. You could almost use it to learn the language. I would say it's indispensable for anyone spending five days or five months in the country. In addition, as this book includes sections on sex, drugs and swearing find out what the Greeks really think of you! If travelling in Greece take this book and you'll soon feel at one with the country and it's people. Ya Soo.
