This book is an excellent introduction to electronics and as a practicing engineer I still find this book is useful to dip into as an aide memoir. The book is primarily practical, being at best sketchy on theory. Also much of the device specific information presented is now out of date (I guess H&H's expiry date was around 1985). These days the book would not be out of place in a museum of electronics history.

The Oxford Guide to Film Studies succeeds where most other film studies textbooks fail, by making the material it is focusing on accessible and engaging. Although clearly aimed at the Undergraduate Film or Media Studies student, there is much here to interest even the casual reader. The book covers almost every important area of film studies in some detail, ranging from semiotics to feminism, post-modernism to pornography, film and cultural identity to film history. This range is not only exhaustive, but each essay is written by a top lecturer or researcher in the field. Along with informed commentary and well-placed case studies/film readings, this book just can't help but educate you. Quite simply, much more than your average textbook.

Very good ghost story, similar to M.R. James I thought. But the reading is great. Fine actor. If you even think you might like ghost stories this is a must. I agree totally with the previous reviewer: choose a wintry night with a gale outside blowing against the windows (a glass of whiskey seems to do no harm), light a fire, turn out the light, and listen. But not if you're of a particularly nervous disposition....

Some interviews are very short, others very long. Some are very interesting, others a bit boring. At the same time, it is a very good introduction to many famous photographers' lives and I would recommend it. Moreover, it is perfect if you cannot read a book all in one go. You can read an interview one day, then read another one a week later and so on.
