I bought this guide using my standard reference for guidebooks - namely buying the latest and newest available - There's nothing more annoying than an out of date guidebook, especially if you are a first time visitor to a place.
I arrived in Rio and started to use the book - It was hopeless! The text is stale, the whole appearance of the book is old fashioned and I found it impossible to enjoy the amazing city of Rio with it.
A case in point - The book recommended, enthusiastically a market named Mercado de Maduereira. We paid about $20 US for a taxi to reach to far northern part of Rio only to find a complete washout - the market was rubbish, with no authentic local handicrafts or any of the specialty shops the book recommended.
