Photoshop CS3 is such a gobsmacking programme, particularly if you are new to it (like me), that any help is useful. However, this book is much more than that. Clear pictures, projects, signposted sections and an excellent accompanying CD with the base images, projects and demonstration videos is a of real value. It is well written, in relatively plain and accessible language, with only the odd slip into jargon (that you can find). It develops from beginning to end, and you can skip backwards and forwards through it with ease. Handy reference for later work as you progress. Better value than many books I've had of similar type in the past - this is presently my handrail and guide to learning.

One of the things I really like about this book is the way it carefully leads you step by step through all the stages you need to change your photographs into fantastic artistic images. Its a large subject but the book manages to successfully cover it all in an interesting and imaginative way, I found it well written and very informative.

The book is broken down into 13 sections and covers just about everything a digital photographer could wish to know, the breadth & depth of the book is just excellent. The individual sections are: The Next Level, Scanner and Camera Techniques, Processing Raw Files, Photo Organisation and Management, Pathways to Editing in Elements, Images Changes .. Beyond the Basics, Darkroom Techniques on ... Read More:

It's been 7 years since the last revision of Introducing Psychological Research (Banyard & Grayson) but what has this recent 3rd Edition brought us? The PsychBLOG review: Let's get inside.

For students studying OCR AS Psychology this is a gem of a book. This book summarises most of the core studies (both current and new specification) concisely - although Savage-Rumbaugh (1986) is surprisingly absent. From start to finish you have psychology in a readable and witty style; talking of highly controlled social psychological studies Phil says:

"[The studies] are often brilliantly controlled and scientifically rigorous but bear as much resemblance to social interaction as an Oxo cube does to a cow. Such studies can be described ... Read More:

After using the book for a couple of weeks to familiarize with updates from Photoshop CS2 to CS3 I find it useful when used with another CS3 book. On its own it is not a full enough resource. It is more beneficial when used to remind yourself how to do something you perhaps do not do that often. The book is used, dont get me wrong, as I used the previous Photoshop a lot, and wanted something to inform me of the updates to the software. A great book when used with another more comprehensive book.

This is a very thorough guide for beginners and anyone wishing to improve their photography. It is very well illustrated and is in an easy format that makes the various topics interesting and informative. I use it for reference for our disabled photography group. It gives a good foundation in traditional/digital photography and eliminates un-necessary jargon. It is very pleasing to get books that fulfill your learning curve and a bit more besides. I would certainly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to have a good foundation in photography, also it gives you a taster of the traditional and digital darkroom techniques. Authors are now adapting to easy step by step information, and improving the format and illustration, making topics come alive. ... Read More:

This is another excellent book from Philip Andrews.
The book is clearly written and addresses a number of quite technical issues with clarity a beginer could understand.
Thoroughly recommended

Books : Introducing Psychological Research 2nd ed: Seventy Studies That Shape Psychology
For any students studying OCR AS psychology this is a gem of a book. This book summarises all of the 20 core studies concisely in a readable style. As well as the 20 core studies, there are also other 'classic' studies in psychology which could come in use for coursework or second-year modules.

As if that wasn't enough, the chapter on methodology in this book is probably one of the best chapters on the topic that I have ever read.

Really this is the core text for OCR psychology; a fantastic book; but, what else would you expect from the gent who used to be the Chief Examiner for the course?

Readers of Larkin's excellent letters will have come across frequent complaints about his 'Oxford Book of Two Cent Verse' as he dismissivly calls it. Although he found the task of producing it onerous, it's very good -- if one accepts it for what it is.

Anthologies, having limited space, make a choice between representing the best writers at length, or representing a larger number of writers more briefly. Larkin chooses the latter: the book includes 584 poems by about 200 poets, which this means that many poets (outside the "greats" -- Hardy, Yeats and Eliot -- who are all fully represented) are represented by as little as two poems.

But this approach has virtues. Larkin includes poems by many poets who aren't considered "major ... Read More:
