I buy this book based in the advise of a friend that is an english teacher and the reviews that I read from amazon uk and amozon US. the book is very usefull for me. I never learn english from Class I learn english from HBO and Cinemax. Because of this I have a lot of problems with my grammar, I have quite a good vocabulary and my pronuntiation is pretty well, bt when I am writing... The problems appear this book help me a lot with that the study guide make me realize witch are my major mistakes and the cd is also pretty good. Although a comprehensive and readable commentary there is a fatal flaw in which the late Raymond Brown cleverly attacks the Bible's inerrancy. On page 1169, section 72:14 the NJBC leaves out a crucial part of a sentence from Dei Verbum when it states: 'On inerrancy Vatican II made an important qualification as our italics indicate: 'The Books of Scripture must be acknowledged as teaching firmly, faithfully, and without error "that truth which God wanted put into the sacred writings for the sake of our salvation" '. Murphy is a classic in TEFL. The students like the way grammar is broken into pieces and made accessible. I have had many students who despised 'grammar' but loved 'Murphy'. This book has more exercises for the grammar points introduced in the book. I use this when a new point of grammar seems hard to sink in, or when revising it after a while. I also had some students who have done all the exercises in the Murphy grammar book, so this book was very handy to keep them busy. On its own, this book does not mean much. In conjunction with the Murphy grammar book, this is very handy to have.
