I am currently studying on the EdExcel science GCSE course, and I have to say, the quality of this book is appalling. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy "science", but this book it just dreadful.

Personal complaints:
1. Book content doesn't always match the exam. Often the exam asks about things which havn't even been mentioned in the book, or have been quashed in a little table to the side and made to look unimportant when actually it is important to learn.
2. Random pictures on many pages irrelevant to the topic, or have been bashed together poorly. For example, there's a picture on a page of some random guy, and the caption under it is something like "X cares about X". They may as well have gone round London for a day taking ... Read More:

Unlike many of the new textbooks for GCSE Science, this one offers more than
just pretty pictures and basic text that barely covers the specification.
Instead the whole design is colourful, bright and replete with interesting
photographs and excellent diagrams. The content sticks closely to the
requirements of the specification and manages to keep a reader's interest by
stopping occasionally to make you think by way of "Have you ever wondered?"
questions, e.g. should we switch to nuclear power to combat global warming?
These sorts of questions are clearly included not to be answered, but to
stimulate debate in the classroom.
The CD (or ActiveBook) provides all of the double page spreads in a

I can only agree with the previous reviewers. This modestly priced guide is also an outstanding work and a spin off from the excellent 'Field Guide to Moths...' by the same authors.

There are over 20,000 species of insect in the UK and over 2000 are moths. Not surprisingly, many books cover only selected species (and try to conceal this shortcoming) leaving one wondering if they are going to give a reliable identification. This book gets as close as one can to covering all the bases, as it has all the 'macro' moths (about 900 species, generally 1cm-2cm long and upwards).

The images are so much clearer in this book than those I remember from years ago (e.g. Richard South's two volume 'Moths of the British Isles'). These are ... Read More:

This is essentially a sympathetic and worthwhile restatement of the case "for" the parish system, that has been under attack ever since "Mission-shaped Church", Nick Spencer's "Parochial Vision" and the like. Undergirding it is an argument that in essence goes like this:
1. assume the nation is made up of 10% in church, 60% or so "unchurched" (i.e. never been) and 30% "dechurched" (i.e. have been before, just not at the moment).
2. the "unchurched" is the growth area, but parishes are unable to deal with this: this is where the "fresh expressions" must come in, to meet people at this juncture
3. the parish system should be better at calling back and reinvigorating the section of "dechurched" who are still open to the call.

This is really a great book. For a layperson like myself who's looking for an intelligent, informed discussion of perfectionism, and suggestions for how to find relief from its more negative aspects, "When Perfect Isn't Good Enough" strikes an excellent balance between an overly technical professional text and the all-too-common self-help book that's too high on fluff and too low on content. This book - which I very much enjoyed reading - is packed with useful information (and good exercises) on how to break free from patterns of perfectionistic thinking and behavior; and it contains what I thought were interesting and insightful discussions on how perfectionism ties together with depression, anger, social anxiety, worry, and other ... My daughter is 11 years old. This is what she says'I think that the story is extremely witty and delightfully old fashioned.Martin Jarvis is the ultimate Bunter,a perfect narrator.
The characters seem to come alive with his multi voice brilliance. Each person is accompanied, not only by different voice, but by a different character as well. Martin Jarvis really makes it seem as if you are in the Remove with the fellows!YAROOOH- have a nice time listening you fellows!'
