This is a good, useful map. Two sided, each 55cm x 65cm, scale 1:40,000, 2.5cm =1km, which is about 1.5inches = 1 mile. Not quite as good as a British Ordnance Survey map, but better and cheaper (from Amazon) than any maps I saw in Madeira. All the main roads, tourist info, contours, (with good background colouring to indicate height,essential in such a mountainous region), footpath details, with references to walk numbers in guide-books, levadas, a place-name index... There is also a small street-map of the centre of Funchal, but it's really too small to be of use. Collect a free advertising tourist map from your hotel for the centre of Funchal. Have used this map on two holidays and found it to be very accurate for both paths for walking and roads. Shows all roads including unsealed roads that you will need to use to get to the remote beaches. The usual holiday maker maps don't have the detail that this one has. Places of interest are marked, but there is no tourist info as it is a proper map. Is very durable, not shown any signs of wear and tear despite quite a hammering. In fact, like a twit I managed to throw mine away while cleaning out the car and I am going to buy another. If you want to drive in Menorca,buy this map for directions and a guide book for tourist information.

I like the clear easy to read mapping which manages to be highly detailed without seeming over complicated. We covered quite a lot of ground in two weeks and found walks we would not have discovered without this map which inspired confidence. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the island who wants to get away from the tourists and into the real Tenerife.

We loved this map - the detail is excellent. Whether you're exploring Lanzarote in a hire car, on foot or by bike it's incredibly useful - and we loved the fact that it refused to fall apart, no matter how badly we treated it! All we took with us to plan our trip was this and the Rough Guide (Lanzarote Directions by Emma Gregg) - which is brilliant too - and we had a great time, with lots of off-the-beaten-track adventures!

Just returned from a 2 week holiday in Lanzarote, and really glad we bought this book, and the accompanying map before we went. The walks take you to parts of the island you would never see by road, and gives you the confidence to explore without wondering whether or not you are going somewhere you shouldn't be. There are 32 routes in all, of varying lengths and difficulty, all very well explained. Don't be put off with the authors' pre-occupation with GPS - we don't have one, and using the map sections in the book, and following the very clear route descriptions, we never had any problems finding the paths. The range of walks was useful, with choices of walks of varying difficulty and length etc. We would heartily recommend this to anyone wanting to walk on the island, newcomers and returning visitors alike.

We had planned to be on La Gomera in January but had to delay until mid March, which meant we had the new Walk! La Gomera book and La Gomera Tour & Trail Map. Walk! La Gomera simply leaves all other guide books way behind. If there is any good walking then it is in this book. Routes range from interesting, to inspirational and up to awesome. Excellent maps enhance the well written descriptions and there is a whole bundle of useful info, like the amazing Garajonay Express catamaran ferry between the coastal resorts. La Gomera Tour & Trail Map is excellent and the material really is super-durable, standing up to two weeks of constant folding, stuffing in pockets, sitting on in the wet forest when resting, and at the end it just folds up like ...
