First, the good stuff: this is a bold, honest, naked and funny tome about the writing process for one of television's most acclaimed comebacks. The reader follows Russell T. Davies through the agony and the ectasy of the entire writing process and, goaded along by Benjamin Cook, who acts as much as a muse as an enabler, the cigarette-fuelled revelations are so personal that one can get a contact high from being so ensconced in this man's head.

The pictures (including many beautiful stills during production as well as Davies' insanely brilliant cartoons) are to be cherished as much as the raw scripts that litter the hysterically titled email exchanges between Davies and Cook.

The ugly bits, for me, come from Davies' ... Read More:

With the glut of Doctor Who related merchandise that fills the shelves these days there are inevitably high and low points. Never mind the lows though, this is a definite high! Apart from the dodgy sketch of Rose on the front cover this is a high quality offering from Panini books and deserves the positive reviews given here. The only possible criticism is the artwork but the contents and layout are top drawer. Story-wise, highlights are Mark Gatiss' 'Cuckoo Spit', the tale of a lonely boy whose life is shaken-up by The Doctor and Rose and 'Gravestone House', a creepy mystery which shows that things aren't always what they seem; reminiscent of that master of teenage fiction, Robert Westall. Never preachy but always leaving the reader with something to ponder, these ... Read More:

Russell Davies' regenerated Dr Who has been a triumph not only of nostalgia but of new beginnings.

Not content with merely bringing the Time Lord back to the small screen with a big budget, Davies sidestepped the obvious error and made sure that the scripts outshone the CGI at every turn. Delivered by a superb ensemble cast, headed up in series 1 by Christopher Eccleston as a stark loner plagued by survivor guilt, the new episodes were miracles of economic but stylish drama.

Devoid of sentiment but packed with emotion, they scared us rigid, built characters we cared about and still found time to take apart the vanities of 21st century culture - from reality TV and makeover shows to the Blair regime's paranoid obsessions with identity and security. ... Read More:

Books : Damaged Goods (New Doctor Who Adventures)
How is it fair to criticize the man who single-handedly ressurected a dead T.V classic and reinvented it as one of the leading dramas of the 21st Century? It isn't, hence 4 stars rather than 3.
Russell.T.Davies has produced what seemed at first to be a classic 'New Adventure' for Doctor Who. The TARDIS crew arrive on Earth in the late nineteen-eighties and are immediately embroiled in the nefarious world of crack cocaine and gangland terror. Davies initially recreates the superbly sleazy world of night-time homosexual encounters and queer-bashing; illicit drug deals; violent criminals and seedy council estates of Thatcher's Britain; with the spectre of AIDS hanging over the whole lot like some underfed, deadly vulture. The novel is consequently extremely violent in places ... Read More:

Books : Dark Season
The book of the classic b.b.c. kids drama shown in 1991 works even better than the brilliant series. It basically a book of two half's.(or two season's if you will). Quite dark and gloomy for kids and very intriguing throughout Russell T davies expands on the t.v. adaptation to add futher depth to the characters and give more of a past to each of them. It read's very much like a Doctor Who novel (which he has done too) and has many a plot twist with a great one at the end. I saw the series when it was on t.v. back in 1991 and as the series has never been on video(why not!!) this is a great way to re-discover a lost gem.Do not dismiss this as a childens book. I'm 25 and enjoyed every moment of it. Its just a whole lot of fun.
