I ordered this for my 6 year old son ready for his show and share afternoon at school, not sure if it would be suitable for his age. He loved the book immediately and was able to read and understand the text confidently. What really caught his imagination were the maps in the back, of the continents and countries, and the animals, landmarks, etc... that could be found around the world. I am sure we are going to have hours of fun learning about the world - think mummy will learn a thing or two as well!!

This is an excellent history book, the sort I wish I'd had 30 years ago. Not just dates and battles and important people, but information on how the ordinary people lived, what they wore, what work they did, how events affected them, the builings...... Lots of very innformative pictures. And lots of 'asides' on historical figures whom I'd heard of, but didn't know exactly why they were important, with just enough information on each for me to gauge whether to do further research. I've given copies of this book to three youngsters in the target age group and their parents have all reported back that their offspring loved the book.

We have used this book as a move on to "You Choose". Just started to use it with our 22 month old to increase his vocab understanding but I can see it being of interest for many years to come especially for counting and concentration.

There I was, despairing over my 7-year-old son's school Roman Army project, wondering how on earth we would get through it without murder being committed, when I found this book. Parents who find themselves in a similar position should get rid of any other books you might have on the subject, and just use this one. The text is simple enough for a youngish child, and the pictures are terrific. The project is complete, the child is happy, and his mother is delighted.

I got this for my three year old who's recently become engrossed in the concept of stencilling as a means by which to produce pictures which she is yet too young to draw otherwise. As such, she happily goes at it and produces reasonable reproductions, which she is happy to get on with herself and then colour in/cut out etc. It's an A4 book and is basic, with no extras, but is solid and has a good range of stencils and thus activity potential, being from Usborne. It has 13, generally large, cardboard stencils which although less sturdy than plastic versions fit well inside the board book type pages and if handled reasonably, so far appear to keep in good order.
