This is a guide to manners, behaviour, wardrobe and a general 'how-to' guide on what makes a gentleman a gentleman.

It's superb. The rules involved may not have dated much from the late eighteenth century, but are none the worse for that. Even today, only the most militant feminist will object to having car doors opened for her, or seeing men stand when she leaves the table, so maybe the human race hasn't changed that much in the past hundred or so years.

The sad fact is, however, that the vast majority of the male occupants of the planet won't read this and won't understand why they should. However, therein lies the golden opportunity for those of us who do understand to steal a march on our less-developed rivals. ... Read More:

...I often find this book really useful, even though it is meant to be humorous. It is actually pretty funny, with some great illustrations, but if I think about it, the stuff like shaving properly, DIY etc has actually changed the way I do things for the better. Hemce writing this review. Oh, and the CPR/heimlich tips are serious stuff, worth absorbing. More than just a joke book.

My son and I were given this as a present, and I have to say I was a bit dubious at first. But I'm happy to say I was wrong - both of us have been having a great time trying out the different games and activities.

There's a nice dose of good old-fashioned Swallows and Amazons stuff, like making fires, rigging tents and spotting planets. But there's also more complex indoor stuff like making a crystal radio or a periscope. And there are some things in there that are just for fun, like bottle rockets, card tricks and paper planes.

The author's sense of fun is infectious. He clearly gets a kick out of everything in the book, and his suggestions are all clearly laid out and easy to follow. And there are clear diagrams to ... Read More:

Books : Great Britain (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
This is a large book- over 1000 pages, and it aims to be a single, comprehensive guide to Britain. It begins with a section on travel advice such as tips about safety, information about currency and safety and information about travelling to Britain and within Britain. Basically, information for before you travel. But I would question the appeal of this kind of printed material. All this information can be found out quite easily online, and online sources are naturally much more up to date.

In the intro, and throughout the book, they make remarkable generalisations. "English pubs general..." " The British public usually..." I hope people don't take this too seriously!

Also this book is not re-written, it is simply updated. ... Read More:

Books : How to Keep House
This book is brilliant, I cannot praise it enough! I picked originally for the comedy factor, imagining it to be just for entertainment with nothing serious to offer. I was very surprised to find that I was hooked by helpful tips and handy hints for everyday house maintenance.

Now, I am not personally interested in "The Lost Art Of Being a Man" (being a girl myself!) but in terms of starting out on my own away from home for the first time this book is a godsend.

It is divided into sections, including simple DIY, cleaning, household securtiy and clothes washing (including a very useful table of washing symbols). This book provides you with helpful lists of basic things you need for your kitchen, basic tools, even a first aid kit list, and ways ... Read More:
