This is the second lonely planet book that I have bought, the first being south East Asia which I found invaluable. The book is a little big not exactly pocket size BUT it can answers nearly everything you need to know without giving too much away so you still get the adventure. Packed full of places to see, phone numbers, where to go for emergency help. Ratings for hostels and much more

All in all this is a great book and I am looking forward to using it later this year when I go travelling Spain & France on my Motorbike.

I've lived in and travelled around Ukraine for the past year. The LP guide is (as I often find with LP) out of date, inaccurate and all too brief on areas which deserve more. The entry for Vylkovo (for example), a town in Southern Ukraine, runs along the lines of 'I've never been there but lots of people who do go there like it.' Is that REALLY what a good, helpful guidebook should say? All information abut Odessa is thoroughly outdated (almost all hotels, restaurants, bars and clubs listed no longer exist), and, where other readers may not appreciate the 'background' information provided by Bradt, I think this information adds to a much fuller understanding of place, people and culture. If you're coming to Ukraine for more than a few days, spend ... Read More:

Books : Germany (Lonely Planet Germany)
I have only recently discovered the delights of Germany, and this book provides a decent amount of information to get you started. The history bit at the front, maps and language bit at the back are just three of the particularly useful features of this book. A must for people travelling to Germany.

Books : Switzerland (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)
I did most of the French side this summer and found it to be spot on. You could be travelling to a town/city by train and reading about your destination, when you get there its totally like the descriptions in the book. Theres lots of background info on Swiss soceity/culture which helps you to chat with the locals by knowing their frame of reference.

If you want a good holiday in Switzerland you have to travel around and see the natural sights, this book is great for planning your itinery.

Only flaw I spotted was I was walking on a bridge in Bern that wasn't on the LP map and was lost for about 2 minutes.

If visiting, its best to buy this before you travel so you can do a day by day plan. I did and it ran very smoothly thanks to the ... Read More:

The format and cross referencing of this book is terrible.

A ridiculous amount of the cross referencing is inaccurate resulting in you spend most of the time standing in the street looking like a lemon trying to work out exactly what you're heading too. Also the map provide has one major inaccuracy, the astronomical clock is not circa two streets from the old square, its in it.

I have always been a fan of Lonely Planet but this guide is a massive massive disappointment.

This book offers brilliant advice on where to go and where not to go. This guy seems like he has actually been to all the places. It is set out in an easy to read way. It is colour coded and has 6 maps in the front and back covers! They are all very detailed, include street names, train stations and it has the underground map. Its all you need to know on where to stay, eat, shop and visit. It even has sections just for kids! I would advise anyone to buy this book!
