Took my fiance to Paris recently and bought this book for the trip.
Have always been impressed when I've taken one of the Lonely Planet guides on my travels, and this book maintained the high standards that I've come to expect from them.
Doesn't matter if you know a bit about where you are visiting or if you are completely clueless - everything you could need to know is in here.
Well written, easy to use, full of useful information, and yet small enough to fit in a coat pocket.
Highly recommend.

I am a big fan of the Lonely Planet range and almost always buy one of their books when going abroad. This is the first time I bought one of the "Best Of" guides, and has put me off buying another one!

I've just come back from a 4 night trip to Budapest with my girlfriend, and by the end of it were only using the book for the maps. Some of the bar/cafe recommendations were quite bizarre. One cafe (with a poor overpriced menu) said to look onto "one of Pest's most attractive little sqaures" this turned out to be a car park?! Many of the so called popular bars it mentioned were very quiet, although this may be more to do with the time of year.

Like the other reviewers, I feel this book glossed over a lot of information. ... Read More:

This guide has a lot of useful information but as it was published in March 2003 it is out of date.
The quoted prices are likely to have gone up slightly and some places to eat or places to stay may not be there any more.

The section on Budapest is detailed and useful. Most of the information on attraction opening times seem to be correct (even if the prices aren't). I only visited the capital so I don't know how good the information on the rest of Hungary is.

I recommend this book if you are travelling to Hungary but be aware that it is two years out of date. I couldn't find any other guides that weren't even more out of date.

If you visit Budapest I recommend a tour of the parliament building. If you are an ... Read More:

Books : China (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
I have just returned from china in which i spent three months there teaching and travelling. This was my first time travelling and the book was fantastic!! Alot of details and information for even the obscurest places in china. There was only one place i visted that wasn't in the lonely planet. It helped with language barrier aswell due to a lot of the places i went to were in chinese characters in the book. I will stick with the lonely planet guides when I travel in the future. Also much better than rough guide!

Books : Germany (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
I have only recently discovered the delights of Germany, and this book provides a decent amount of information to get you started. The history bit at the front, maps and language bit at the back are just three of the particularly useful features of this book. A must for people travelling to Germany.

Books : Slovenia (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
Good old Lonely Planet, it has once again provided all the information I needed to get around on holiday. It's well laid out and easy to find the information you need, and has just about the right level of detail. Everything I needed to know could be found here; where to stay, where to eat, how to get around, how to stay healthy, basic language, what to see and when it was open. Lonely Planet does a good job of catering for everyone, from families to thrill seekers to budget travellers. This book is small enough to carry around and sturdy enough to survive the experience, but contains pretty much everything you need to know. I'd definitely recommend it if you're visiting Slovenia.

10.Hong Kong (Lonely Planet Best of ...) by: Stephen Fallon

Books : Hong Kong (Lonely Planet Best of ...)
Such is the restless dynamism of Hong Kong, that even this 2005 guide was slightly overtaken by the time I travelled there in May 2006. However, it remains very useful. This slimmed down version has the added merit of having had to avoid, with one or two exceptions, the usual "professional traveller" politically correct rant which often seems to come with this kind of publication (and which is even more egregious in the Rough Guides and satellite TV guides such as City Cabs).

Naturally, there could be a few improvements here and there: Kowloon Walled City Park is only a 15 minute walk from Lok Fu MTR if you are fitter than I am and one can take a cheap bus ride there from Lof Fu bus station anyway. Likewise, a lifesaving tip would be to add that one can ... Read More:
