While working for a previous company, I was sent on this course (which included reading the book). I'm sure the company meant well, but my experience of the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People", was essentially teaching people how to suck eggs.

Stephen R. Covey has made a personal fortune out of selling what most critical thinkers realise for themselves at an early age. His writings are bland and uninteresting, telling us what we already know in a language barely recognisable as English. "Synergize", "leverage", "win-win"; I'm sure you've heard them before. They are all here. Do they mean anything? In my humble opinion - not in the slightest.

Steer clear.

I could say that this is an essential tool in the vast search for success. I have implemented and kept these habits in my life not only in business but in many other aspects.
Points which we all innately know, just nice to hear a clerical view.

Having found Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" an extremely useful tool for organising my life, I really looked forward to what might lie in store with this "8th Habit" volume.

In many ways, I found reading it very much like eating a fruit cake - insofar as the pearls of wisdom and practical advice that were so densely packed in the "Seven Habits" - (I have my MS Outlook organised into Covey's "Urgent and Important, Important and Not Urgent . . ." system) were still there, but they were mixed more thinly through the dough of the fruit cake.

The subtitle of the book is "Finding Your Own Voice and Teaching Others to Find Their's" and indeed it does have some extremely valuable lessons to give about empowerment ... Read More:

The lack of structure is definately a problem, especially if this was your first exposure to Six Sigma. I bought it as a supporting reference manaual to some materials I had from a structured inhouse training course. As a supporting guide to other reference materials it does have some use.

I've owned the seven habits for a number of years now, and find the book useful as summary of principles found in other literature.

The 7 habit format helps the reader to retain in memory the ideas presented in the book and for this alone is worth the purchase.

I'd agree with other reviewers that the principles in Dr Coveys book are a repackaging of other authors thoughts/work, but to be frank he clearly states that him self.

All in all a good book for anyones book shelf, and worth re-visiting every so often.

Trust can make things easier, and distrust can definitely make things much harder. You already know that. But do you know how to check out where you need to change in order to create more beneficial trust? The Speed of Trust can help those who need a template for such self-examination.

Mr. Stephen M. R. Covey is the son of Dr. Stephen R. Covey of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People fame. If you've read that famous book, you may remember young Stephen referred to by his father as the seven-year-old son who was asked to keep the yard "clean and green" and did neither at first. Dr. Covey writes the foreword for this book and refers to that example. Ms. Rebecca Merrill helped with the writing of Dr. Stephen R. Covey's book First Things First which was coauthored ... This is a very thick, dense book, full of words and more words. It is supposed to teach the reader how to get more time for doing those things we all want to do - how to be better organised; if only someone applied the same rules to their book!

Getting the main points out of this abundance is not easy -everything is laboured to death and so the progress is slow, with time spent discussing other non-productive ways and reasons for their limitations - Do I care?
A person or average intelligence would get it from a few bullet-point statements but the book goes on and on - and on...

But that isn't even the worst of it. Reading this book has been one of those 'I could kick myself for buying - let alone reading' experiences.

The complicated ... Read More:

I have concluded that the root cause of all the ills of the world is that humans do not live their lives according to the Golden Rule of doing unto others as you would have others do unto you. The Golden Rule is the common thread of all religions and can therefore be considered the unifying principle for every human on earth. It is probably the one concept that everyone can buy into but also one goal that everyone would admit they could and should do better. For myself I know that if I truly lived the Golden Rule I would feel much more pain at the unacceptable gap between the rich and the poor because as one of the rich I would see myself or my loved ones as one of the starving and would want to do something about it. The fact that I don't do anything about it - or not enough - means that I ... Read More:
