The three reviews below refer to the old edition of this book. The new version has been entirely rewritten and re-researched. As part of the team who helped write it I should leave the reviews to other people, but I think the criticism of not including Ukraine is quite unfair given that the book never claims to do so!

2.Quebec (Lonely Planet) by: Steve Kokker

I used this guide to go round 4 european cities last summer. I found the background information very useful as well as where the places of interest were. The information was generally up to date except one of the Turkish baths had changed their male/female days around so i turned up on the wrong day. Apart from that, an excellent thorough guide and well worth it!

Parts of this seemingly republished in 2005 book are hideously outdated. The places to eat section especially so. Over half the places in the guide no longer existed and some of the 'key phrases' in the back were very random whilst others such as 'bill please' were omitted. That said, the guide to the neighbourhoods and what places there are to see as well as a comprehensive history of the city is all good and well. Throughout the guide, prices for various attractions and places to eat are all misquoted and little attention should be paid to them.

Don't walk to any of the out of the way eating places in this guide as tube stations are few and far between and its most likely not there any more. Stick to the main street - Nevsky Pr.

All I can say is that I'm glad this book has just been reprinted. I can only comment on the Moldova section as I've just returned from there, using - or at least trying to - this inaccurate, out of date, unhelpful guide. For example, this book says there are 11 trains daily to Odessa, Ukraine, from Kishenev in Moldova. There hasn't been a single train for 3 years. I hope the new edition improves on this HUGELY. And, if you're thinking of travelling across the Ukraine-Transdniestr-Moldova border, DO NOT DO IT. Even spending any time in Transdniestr is VERY difficult at this time (NOT as stated in this guide book) and you will get a lot of unwelcome attention from lawless police, border guards and army. Find another way across the border. Please. And ... Read More:

6.Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (Lonely Planet Country Guide) by: John Noble, Nicola Williams, Robin Gauldie

Books : Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
If you buy just one book for your Baltic trip, this is the one. It is well-written, chock full of practical information and historic background to make the most of your travels. There's no worry if you don't know the language or how to catch the bus in Tallinn; it helps you do it yourself.

The one minor irritation is that there was no reference to TrekBaltics, an Estonian adventure travel company that we found on our own. That was a great find.

All in all -- a terrific book, and the most updated one available today.
