I write as a cook who enjoys actually reading cookery books, not just cooking from them. In comparision with Tessa's other books this one has turned out to be less enjoyable. The publishers should take note: The simple fact that the ingredients are not arranged vertically makes it more difficult to grasp the recipe as a whole, it's not as amusing when just flicking through the book for inspiration! I don't know why but it does give the impression that Tessa hurried through Portugal just to write this book, there's no soul to it if one could say that. That said, the book as a whole is beautifully published, the photographs amazing and I have tried Pasteis de Nata, very good!

I bought this book when it first came out, and it is now my favourite recipe book of all time, which is not bad for a person with over 100 cookbooks. The recipe for Ludi's chicken produces the most delicious potatoes, and every time I cook it I am asked for the recipe. As Tessa Kiros says, these spuds are delicious hot or cold, but the only way they survive long enough to get cold is to cook twice the amount! People drool at the memory of it. The feta and chickpea salad is tangy and very moreish. I have tried most of the recipes and keep going back for more. This is family cooking at its best.

As with her previous two books, Tessa Kiros has captured both my imagination and my taste for cooking. Apart from offering an extensive collection of original and uncomplicated recipes, this is also an enjoyable read, exuding family cosiness and joy of life. I can't wait for Tessa Kiros'next book!!

I'm writing this review because I'm so surpised to see the previous one suggesting the recipes don't work and that people who like the book cannot be serious cooks. I've cooked many recipes from this book and have found them to be simple and very successful.It is probably my most used cookbook, and I'm someone who owns a LOT of cookbooks! I should come clean about the fact that I do have the advantage of actually living in Tuscany, but I cannot believe this factor alone determines whether the recipes are successful! What I can say is that the recipes really do reflect Tuscan food and what is in season here. The month by month idea is important, these are recipes that should be cooked when the veg or fruit that are included are at their peak, though ... Read More:
