Books : China (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
I have just returned from china in which i spent three months there teaching and travelling. This was my first time travelling and the book was fantastic!! Alot of details and information for even the obscurest places in china. There was only one place i visted that wasn't in the lonely planet. It helped with language barrier aswell due to a lot of the places i went to were in chinese characters in the book. I will stick with the lonely planet guides when I travel in the future. Also much better than rough guide!

There is little point in buying this book, you may as well buy the complete China guide as you will probably enter China through Beijing/Shanghai. It offers little new information with the exception being the Nujiang Valley. It is questionable whether the author left the main cities to visit the remote parts (e.g south east Guizhou and westernSichuan). Most of the hotels and restaurants no longer exist, or only have names in Chinese characters, whilst the Lonely Planet only lists the pin yin. And if you cannot pronounce standard Mandarin, you're scuppered.
Failing to find a hotel in one city ( a common ocurrence) due to no signs, it finally pushed me over the edge and I threw this ... Read More:
