First of I would like to say this is a great book and covers ALMOST everything for PHP. However it lacks something and that is continuity. Right from the start the book throughs are you extremely complex examples even for the form handling stuff. Which shows you how to make a newsletter manager. This is not ideal for a beginner. I suggest you get other books, and use this to expand on points. It does give you case studys at the end, but I do not feel they are explained enough. Buy other books, and if PHP still interests you get this. Otherwise leave it, you are not going to build interest by reading this book due to it being too complex.

Easy to read, concise, not to complicated yet it gets to grips with all aspects of the language. This book is fantastic, its so easy to extract the information from. If you want to learn PHP then this is a great place to start.

After first reading "PHP In Easy Steps" I decided to advance onto a higher quality book, and I spent ages looking for one that I thought fit my standards. Then I came across this book, and read alot into it, and saw it was over 1000+ page's, I was like "wow" ... and when I got the book, I was "WOAH! where to start!" ... of course I started at the beggining. This book can be tricky to get into at first, I find it best to just read one chapter at a time, unless it's a small chapter... then view 2 chapters. I think this book is good for somebody who isn't beggining, but for somebody who has pased the "newbie" stage of PHP programming.
