A book full of technicalities and building trade jargon, shamelessly unexplained for the most part. The bulk of the book is (as you'd expect) a series of prices for various jobs around the house at full rates. Some of the products suggested are out of date - eg. 'oil paint' for interior decorating - or otherwise not very 'green'. Several of the lists just give raw figures with no guidance as to what might be suitable or appropriate in different conditions. For instance if a door is in poor decorative condition you get no guidance as to whether to - just clean, undercoat and topcoat, or - burn off old paint, apply knotting and primer, two undercoats and a finishing coat. Yup - have to agree with the first two reviews. Bought for me by my son for a birthday present, I suspect he may have just looked at the words "John Peel" on the sleeve without perhaps reading the notes as to what was contained therein. Perhaps I do him an injustice, but it was with some trepidation I put this on the car CD player this morning. Well it's just a gem from beginning to end - stuff you would never ever be exposed to in the normal course of life but all of it interesting, listenable, thought provoking and in some cass downright moving. From a guy impersonating an old Ford car (rather well it has to be said) through what is probably now known as rockabilly, teatime jazz, brass band, blues ... the list is endless.
