I am usually very impressed with Lonely Planet guides, having used the full length Australia and New Zealand guides and the Best of Hong Kong owhich are all fantastic, but this book is incredibly disappointing. The guide is hugely out of date; I used this when in New York in May 2007 and half of the places to stay and eat which were recommended were no longer open. The hostel I stayed in (Bowery White House Hotel), which is at top place in the guide, was rubbish and nothing like it's discription. Virginia Otis who wrote this book frankly sounds like she's never been to this, or any other hostel, in New York. She also writes in a hugely patronising way which is unnecessary in this type of guide. The only saving grace of this book ... Read More:
